Angry Total Wireless now throttles All video

Looks like Total Wireless is now throttling all video as of today . Guess it's time to shop around for a new carrier

Please shop around. This is a low budget cell service, not meant to be watching daily HD videos. Less bandwidth abuse means more bandwidth left for the rest of us.

    Chat Transcript:

Lyle: Thank you for visiting Total Wireless.
    You: Is video streaming throttled?
    Lyle: Hi.
    You: Hi.
Lyle: Let me check that for you.
Lyle: May I have your phone number, please?
You: I'm asking BEFORE I sign up.
    Lyle: Okay.
Lyle: Video streaming isn't throttled, you can stream videos as long as you have data balance on your phone.
You: And just to clarify, video quality isn't degraded to, for example, 480p, like it is on some other providers?
    Lyle: No.
    You: Okay. Thank you.
    Lyle: You are welcome.

Of course, it's possible that the CSR is clueless.

That's why I'm asking where you saw this documented.

    Thanks!

What's the impact to watching videos in your specific case? Can't watch or just lower resolution?

Well, even if this turns out to be accurate, Vzw unlimited postpaid also limits video streaming quality.

Verizon to start throttling all smartphone videos to 480p or 720p

Low cost yest but when you buy a bunch of add on data and have this happen it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I haven't seen this info posted anywhere but I am no doubt being affected in my market this morning.

Lots of buffering and youtube is defaulting to 480p. Speedtest.net speed test 50 megs while fast.com shows 3.5 megs . Something is clearly up

I'll test with my Net10/AT&T SIM tonight just for grins and see what results I get. If there's anything specific anyone wants me test regarding this thread subject, let me know.

Hopefully others here on TW will test and provide some results vs what you're seeing

Total Wireless now throttles All video

To me it would appear that ALL Verizon MVNOs will be video throttled now. However this is just my speculation.

Confirm with http://fast.com which is run by Netflix.

My guess . . . . Verizon wants extra breathing room for it's new "Above Unlimited" users.
