    BYOD 35 rises to 45

one of our lines that was on a BYOD 35 plan has been increased to 45.
The phone attached to the line is an iphone 7+
CS said it was to stay competitive in the current market or something like that.
so here's another 120 a year to telus.
none of the lines are on contract.

'to stay competitive we must increase your rate' is an oxymoronic statement. And an increase of almost 30% is an abuse of oligopolic power.

Sounds about right unfortunately. In a monopoly situation, staying competitive means raising prices by exactly the same amount as the competitor. Reverse price matching. To do anything different could spark a price war in the other direction.

Just don't understand how the government allows this practices...they always match each others price. I'm sure they meet and set new prices in the meeting. That shouldn't be allowed in an open competitive market

That pretty much explains it, eh? It's not an open and competitive market in Canada. For anything.
    Un-Rogered, and getting better 'value'.

A $5 on my old Robelus plan, which was also no longer on contract, was enough to spur me into shopping around for a new carrier.

I got the old bill shock from this the other day.

Canada doesn’t allow foreign competitors to come here. They protect all the big three, bell, Telus and Rogers. They know if a Verizon or T-Mobile we’re to come to Canada people will be jumping ship like crazy! The big three wouldn’t be able to compete! The only way to get true competition is to let these companies in and then you would see prices drop to half! And unlimited everything! But it’s not only in telecom the Canadian government does the same for almost everything eg. Milk and dairy products too. I’m all for Canadian jobs but by them doing this it only drives up prices for us the Canadian consumer!

Which is why I don't like protectionism...by any country! Watch how much certain things are going to start costing the American public with Trump's tariffs and protectionist policies. Yes, I understand it protects some in-country jobs, but I don’t think it’s worth it with the overall cost increases.
