How about if I want to receive calls without using mobile data while the gv is enabled to receive/forward to the cell #?

I think they really do need to add more granular control to the app. Consider the case where one is forwarding to the mobile # and to the gv app. Both would ring for an inbound call.

As I make a call from my PC, it shows drop down for my Name, Hangouts.

If I pick my name, nothing happen

If I pick Hangouts , it ring the dialed number.

If I call from my Smart Phone GV App, it says you are not authorize make call message

    What is this mean ?

    Thanks for sharing.

That's using Hangouts for VoIP calls.

That sounds like the app is misconfigured.
Maybe it's trying to dial the phone (fIr cellular voice) but doesn't have proper permissions.

    I get the same message.

I do not yet have any option to use data/wifi for calls in the gv app but the dial button is still next to a contact.

So when the option does appear in my GV app to use wifi/data it will become 100% voip?

No more of what I have now, now it uses cellular signal, not data, but runs it through my GV. It just needs data to process it but is not using data once the connection is made, as far as I know.

Can someone share a screenshot, with the numbers crossed out, showing what the connection screens looks like with using the new wifi/data preference?

Looks like Hangouts + Dialer during a call.

I've seen nothing to suggest the old cellular voice option will go away, Just adding the VoIP option that has been wanted for years.

Not sure if it can be 100% VOIP across different carriers, but it's way better than Hangouts.

If you do not want to receive VOIP calls you must go into the settings and switch the preference back to "use cellular".

I use this as a two line phone. Calls to my cellular number come over cellular and calls to my GV number come over VOIP. Since I switched to FirstNet I do not have wi-fi calling. I have things set up when someone calls my cellular number calls go to GV for voicemail, and GV is set to try other phones first. So missed incoming calls to my cell number will try the GV # VOIP before the caller is asked to leave a message.

I am able to make outgoing/incoming calls via Hangouts fot GV # I have.

What do you mean by misconfiguration?

How do I configure correctly for incoming/outbound using GV + GV #?

Do you mind sharing the steps?

    Thanks for sharing.

Install the Hangouts Dialer app along with Hangouts.

Then go to settings in hangouts to enable calls with GV.

Look around for details. Lots out there.

Did you sign-up for the beta discussed in this thread? If not you can't do it now or configure GV app for VoIP calls. Not until the beta becomes released.

You can set it to use cellular voice but I've never done so. Not really the point of this thread. There are lots of resources for that too.

I did sign up, but as many I did not get email back from them.

Yes and I don't think VoIP services like Freedompop work.

Here's a fun fact. Today i was on a cellular call and a GV VOIP call rang through. I didn't answer, but next time I think I will. This is a new thing, because in the past when I was on a cell call GV VOIP calls were ignored. Been on the beta since inception...
