BTW, when I go to Google voice web site using my browser. The first thing I see is "Make A Call" with a green icon on the left.

Yes, and Wi-Fi calls are working well. It's not asking me to rate call quality.

In the GV phone app settings, under Calls, Make and receive calls, it said: Use carrier only. I changed it to Prefer Wi-Fi and mobile data. After that, I disconnected my GV account from Hangouts.

Would be nice if they gave you more granular data control. That is, use wifi calling when on wifi only, use carrier calling when mobile data is enabled.

I did signed in via computer, but I did not see options under settings for WiFi enabled/disabled etc. Do any one see after logging in via computer?

I see "Make a Call", but I am not sure , whether it is pre-beta or post-beta version.

    Thanks for sharing.

If I make a call from the browser, it completes the call from Google Voice.

It's not stated, but wifi is preferred over cell data. That's what 99% of users would want and it's easy to turn off wifi to force data.

How so? If I have the gv app configured to use wifi calling, it continues to do so even when no longer on wifi/mobile data is active.

If wifi and mobile data are unavailable, it will ask you to choose "Retry using internet" or "Retry using Carrier" or "Cancel".

How do you configure GV app to use WiFi calling in Android? Do you mind, sharing the steps ?

    Thanks for sharing.

If you make a call does it ring one of your phones or use the PC mic and speaker?

If it calls one of your phones you it's not wifi.

Right, but what if mobile data is available. I don't want it to use mobile data, just wifi.

I thought about blocking mobile data entirely for the gv app but then that breaks the text messages.

@RIMDHoward Assuming it's enabled on your account, it will be an option in the gv app.

It's configured to "prefer" wifi/data not be exclusive.

So use wifi if available, if not use data if available, if not use cellular.

You can force it to use data by turning off wifi (some hot spots block VoIP or are to slow).

^^You're missing my point. I want it to use wifi when wifi is available. But use regular carrier calling when wifi is not available (even if mobile data is).

They don't have an option yet to exclude data for calls.

    I got the point.
That's not what they expect the user base to want. I figure 99% of wifi users would want to use data for calls if no wifi (just like for messages).

I suppose. Seems a waste of data if carrier voice calling is available.

When you want to make a call without using mobile data, use the dialer on your phone. I make mostly short calls when I'm out, so it doesn't matter to me.
