I think I'll probably let whatever Play Store update eventually occurs with the GV app to get me going in the new direction, assuming they actively promote getting people onto it and off Hangouts. I only use Hangouts for IM chats mainly; only occasionally for voice calls.

@Boz, re obi. It depends which platform your account is on (or using to connect to gv with). On the gv sip platform (new) everything works properly. This requires firmware 5859 or newer on the obi boxes. New firmware checks for signature for subsequent updates. So no downgrading*.

If you want to retain downgrade capability, option to provision the obi box without using obitalk portal, ssh access, and some other goodies, one must flash the naf modded firmware (available obifirmware.com). This firmware is based on the official firmware but with the restrictions removed. I'm running this quite reliably on both a obi200 & 202 box. I also use my own oauth2 credentials, so obitalk portal can go f... itself.

    Now, if the account is on the xmpp platform (google chat as forwarding option in legacy phone settings) then there's problems. Inbound calls work fine. Outbound calls jam up the callee's audio. They can hear you but you can't hear them. No fixes. Several work arounds;

    1) Dialing your own gv #, then #2, then the number you want to dial.
    2) Use a web or android dialer to ring one of your forwarding numbers (callcentric, ipcomms, or whatever other free DID you have configured in the gv account & obi device).
    3) some pbx options work, but still in beta testing, see dslr voip forum for more details.

For now, my main account is still xmpp and staying that way for as long as xmpp works. This ensures I can at least receive calls via the pbx and use #1 or #2 for outbound calls.

Did anyone's GV just update? Mine did from Play Store. Now messages calls and vm icons are now on the bottom. I also got a notification warning that carrier calls will be routed through GV and something about a paid call announcement

I applied for beta 2 days ago but don't think I got it. Put phone in airplane mode then turned on wifi but could not place a call through dialpad in GV app

    This still works for me:

Call GV Number From Forwarding Phone, * (As Soon As Ringing Starts), PIN, #, *, 2, Dial Number, #

Except for testing just now because of your post, I haven't used this method in a long time, but it seems like the "*" just before the "2" wasn't previously needed.

You're right. That does work, my context is pbx based.

Instead of: "1) Dialing your own gv #, then #2, then the number you want to dial."

I don't know if it will make any difference, but did you try: "1) Dialing your own gv #, then 2, then the number you want to dial, then #"?

Or perhaps: "1) Dialing your own gv #, then *, then 2, then the number you want to dial, then #"?

Easier said than done. I get the message below then the call drops.

    Got it yesterday.

Seems to be a trend as several apps have moved stuff to the bottom.

I applied for beta 2 days ago but don't think I got it.
    you have to enable it.

GV settings -> under Calls, make and receive cells.

Set to prefer wifi and mobile data.

In suspect that warning is because you have access to the beta but not set to use it yet.

I was just on a call over WiFi and my connection was a bit spotty so I turned off WiFi, data kicked in and the call continued seamlessly.

    I'm using a Galaxy S9.

A little off topic but anyone else experience this issue, when I get in my car and connect to bluetooth, once I open Google Voice it shows my phone dialing my device number on the car screen... it does not seem like a call is going through but its wierd and annoying... I tried posting on XDA but no help

Try rebooting your phone and see if that fixes the problem.
