Are Tello customers deprioritized for calls?

We used to be on Sprint native (postpaid). Call quality at home was excellent. Figured that would mean Tello would be, as well so we ported.

Well... calls break up, the person sounds robotic to me, stutter effect at times.

I’m using a fresh, new genuine Sprint SIM card and the phone is an iPhone XR. I average two bars indicated signal strength but it sometimes drops to one when. I’m fairly certain the signal was better under Sprint.

Are calls deprioritized for Tello customers?

    Thank you!

I am interested in the answer to this as well. On another forum I was told that Tello does support VoLTE on late-model iPhones, is yours set to use VoLTE? Apologies in advance if this is something you already knew but, as I say, I'd like to know if call quality can be improved on Tello.

VoLTE was turned off. That’s interesting because it was on before joining Tello. It must have been disabled when carrier settings were pushed during activation.

I’ve turned it back on and will see if things improve.

Tello doesn't seem to know or care much about VoLTE. Fortunately, it is implemented by Sprint at the network level so Tello does not have anything to do with it. Tello would probably disable it if they could - but they can't.

Sprint's network supports VoLTE in iPhone 8 and above, and also in Samsung S8, S10, and some other Android phones.

Tello could also have real Sprint Wifi Calling too (far superior to their weak imitation) but that would take some actual work on their part so they can't be bothered. (Ting offers it on its Sprint side on appropriate phones).

People should try with VoLTE both on and with it off. Sometimes it is better with it on, sometimes better with it off, depending on your location. It is still being rolled out by Sprint.

Just to wrap up this thread, after turning VoLTE back on, it seems like call quality has improved. Voices sound natural. Haven’t dropped a call.

Maybe the VoLTE setting has nothing to do with it. Maybe Sprint was having some network issue here and fixed it. But it’s good again.

Anyone using Sprint LG V20 (LS997) on Tello? Does it need to be unlocked because it does not allow APN to be set.

On Sprint phones the APN settings are not user accessible. That's not a problem as a Sprint phone on a Sprint MVNO will get its APN settings from the network when Handsfree Activation runs.

To initiate Handsfree Activation either do a factory reset or dial ##72786#. If prompted for your passcode after dialing ##72786# enter your phone's six digit MSL which you should be able to get from Tello CS if you don't already know it.

Thanks. I wonder if the same applies to MVNO branded phone like the Moto E4 from Boost? I had to root it to access the APN menu in order to use with Tello. I had tried factory reset multiple times prior to rooting to no avail.

For Sprint and its MVNOs, there is an Android Settings menu item that updates the APN. First, be sure your provider has assigned your correct SIM card type and number with your IMEI. Then be sure you are connected to WiFi.

On my Moto G4 Play (your E4 may be similar), the settings are located as follows:
Settings > More > Cellular networks > Carrier settings > Update PRL, and Update device config (sometimes called Update Profile). I would do them both, again, while connected to WiFi. You should not need to do a full Factory Reset.

Yes, I recently activated a LS997 on Tello with no problems. I didn't have to manually change any settings.

I did have some trouble getting the sprint visual voicemail app to work initially, but eventually did. I think I had to uninstall/reinstall the app.

I saw a report of the following email being received by Tello customers. It seems pretty generous for a MVNO.
We're here to help, DOUBLE DATA & TALK for all
These days surfing the internet and calling are as common as our daily meals. To make things easier for you and your friends, we've doubled the DATA and the TALK on all Tello plans to keep connected despite the degrees of separation.
So, whether you're already using a Tello combo or plan to get yourself one, be ready for...
100% MORE at NO extra cost
Also, if you already have some balance in your account it will double, whether it's data or minutes.
I was about to join Tello, will I get double data and talk?
Absolutely! Choose the combo that fits your lifestyle… You know better. Say, for example:
    *You pick 2GB + 300 minutes + unlimited text for $14/month.
*You get 4GB + 600 minutes + unlimited text for the same price.
    Does it make sense?
Offer valid until May 29. For existing customers, any remaining data or minute balance will be doubled on the spot. The data and minute balance will be also doubled every time the plan renews by May 29.
What happens with my current plan?
Simple math: your data & talk will double automatically, starting with your next billing date. And if you have any talk/data balance left, it will double as of today...
Also, say you have the 300 minute plan, and you still have 50 minutes left today.
•Your balance doubles to 100 minutes for the current billing cycle.
•You'll receive 600 minutes instead of 300 for the same $6 until May 29.
    It's a deal!
Any remaining data or minute balance will be doubled on the spot. The data and minute balance will be also doubled every time the plan renews by May 29, 2020 (23:59 EST).

Now that Sprint has been taken over by TMobile, are Tello customers going to be migrated to the TMobile network?

I sure wouldn't mind it. I really hate whitelisted device networks.

Sent from my moto e5 play using HoFo mobile app
