It should show LTE on a call, not 4G. So doesn’t look like you have VoLTE on your Essential.

Well, just an update on this. I used my mom's Alcatel Go Flip, which has VoLTE, and the call screen said '4G'. So, going by the call quailty etc. on the Essential, I would say with almost certainty, it has VoLTE.
    Un-Rogered, and getting better 'value'.

^A Cell Phone Company Branded Phone will show LTE if VoLTE was supported when on a voice call.

Tell me how many of those Koodo, or Telus has... I believe the answer is 'None'. However, they do have VoLTE phones on the network despite that. And, I did buy the PH-1 from Koodo... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

^No idea what you are saying. Once again on a carrier branded phone when on a VoLTE call your phone will show LTE not 4G. Also yes koodo has a lot of carrier branded volte phones but koodo doesn't support volte yet, so on koodo if you are connected to LTE and make a Voice Call your Phone connection will drop to HSPA and your phone will show 3G or 4G or H/+.

If I'm reading this correctly, you guys are having a semantic disagreement about the term 'carrier branded'. CGY Guy understands it to mean an ODM handset sold and branded by the carrier itself (ex. https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone/t-mobile-revvl-plus , https://www.att.com/cellphones/att/cingular-flip-2.html) while jattdesi just means a phone customized for and sold by a carrier, but still branded by the manufacturer (ex. iPhones sold by Telus with Telus carrier settings, Androids with Telus apps pre-installed).

Telus has no more self-branded devices (last was the first version Smart Hub IIRC), but some of the devices it does sell will work on VoLTE if enabled on the phone and configured on the back end.

I should add - I moved from Telus to Koodo for the international texting version of 10GB/$60. My Galaxy S7 would show LTE on calls on Telus, and my Koodo account does have a feature mention of VoLTE. When I first switched I still had "Use VoLTE when available' enabled on the handset, and the phone would try to use it - calls would never go through, just sit on a black screen attempting to dial out. After I turned it off calls would drop to a 4G (HSPA) connection and go through. I've since re-enabled the setting, and now calls still drop to 4G and successfully connect automatically.

^You are absolutely correct on both of your posts above, not sure CGY Guy is not understanding that he is not getting VoLte with koodo when on a voice call.

OK, I checked *#*#4636#*#*, and VoLTE was not provisioned. My apologies to all.

My Pixel 2 XL shows that VoLTE is provisioned but still drops off LTE when making a call.

Apology accepted. It looks like you have never experienced a VoLTE Call. Another way to tell when you make a VoLTE call your call starts ringing within 3 to 5 seconds where HSPA call can take anywhere from 10-12 seconds or longer.

Interestingly enough, most of my calls do connect within 6 seconds.

Surprised Koodo still has not rolled this out.

That, and RCS. Want people to burn that precious data? Give them RCS.

There is no logical or reasonable explanation for not rolling it out considering Telus and Bell have it implemented across Canada.
