I take that back. It did eventually connect momentarily at Rogers Centre tonight.

Found an answer on my own. VoLTE calls use a separate data channel with its own APN, etc. You can even turn off mobile data and still make VoLTE calls. So it won't count towards your data bucket.

I made my first VoLTE to VoLTE call with my best friend. I'm with Telus and he's with Koodo. The voice quality is noticeably better but what surprised me the most was the call set-up time. It was damn near instant. As soon as I called him, it started dialing. It's normally 4 seconds with VoLTE enabled and closer to 8 seconds with it disabled.

Do you have to enable Wi-Fi calling to get VoLTE?

No, they are two separate things. VoLTE is Voice over your carrier’s LTE network. Wi-Fi Calling is Voice over a Wi-Fi network.
TELUS: Unlimited Canada-wide Talk, Text and 15+10 GB Data
Koodo: Unlimited Canada-wide Talk, Text and 8+9 GB Data
chatr: Unlimited In-zone Talk, Text and Data (20 GB at 3G speed)

I tried making a call on my iPhone 7, but it still shows 3G when I make calls. I updated to iOS 11.3 as well.

Settings -> Cellular-> Cellular Data Options -> Enable LTE -> Voice & Data

Apple doesn’t make VoLTE easy to find.

Haha, whoops. I didn't think to check that. I was trying to find it under phone. Thank you very much for your help!

I noticed the same thing, and for me at least on iPhone 6, I have to have the wifi calling on in order to keep the VoLTE active. If I turn the wifi calling off the calls drop to 3G. And I do have the LTE enabled for Voice & Data.

Anyone who has working Koodo VoLTE, can you confirm or deny that there is an add-on on your account in self serve for VoLTE access?
If there is, can you screenshot it and post it here?
    Thanks.

Thanks! Now can you provide a little back story as to how you got it?
Did you open a new account with a V30 or iPhone purchase at TELUS?
Did you just drop a SIM into an iPhone and it showed up?
    Etc...

I have an iPhone 6 from 3 years ago, just got a carrier update and activated VoLTE after that. See below for the instructions I post a while ago...
