Data usage - FreedomPop app vs Hangouts

Anyone know how data usage is in Hangouts vs the FP app? So far I have only made a few quick calls in Hangouts, but surprised to see they were 2-3meg each. Seems like I will burn through my data fast if that is the case. So I am wondering if the data usage is less using the FP app to make calls.

The review at this site lists data usage for Hangouts on FP: http://cranialborborygmus.com/Freedo...sim-review.htm

Shows 0.55 MB per minute average.

AFAIK, calls made using the FreedomPop app do not count against your data allowance.

The link that BW01 posted said the same. Guess maybe I will test that more and see if that works as good as Hangouts. thanks

In my experience, yes. I have unlimited on my iPhone and I actually prefer to use FreedomPop app for crystal clear calls where I have good LTE signal. Hangouts voice quality is ok but nowhere near as good as FreedomPop.

It generally tends to be lower with Hangouts. I have used next to nothing with Hangouts. On the other hand, background data usage can be high with FreedomPop Messaging. That data is normally not covered by FreedomPop.

Unless you pay for the unlimited voice/sms plan and MMS service.

My issue is that the FP app is flaky. The newest version (unless what I have has been fixed -- please advise) crashes/doesn't work when trying to place calls using cellular data. A previous version that I installed in lieu of the most recent version is also flaky: I regularly see the message on my phone that "messaging has quit unexpectedly" (or whatever the actual wording....)

So it not just me? LOL

The FP app for iOS is solid as a rock. CallKit integration works better than Hangouts. You can also manually switch between Premium Voice and VoIP for incoming and outgoing calls separately.

I tried a call with the FP app earlier today, and it did actually seem much clearer/louder than the Hangouts calls. I'll have to test further.
