Help Needed: Looking for Win 10 Pro Software/App like LTE Discovery on Android!

I am now the proud owner of an LTE-Equipped Microsoft Surface 3 (NOT a Pro) 10.8" tablet running Windows 10 Professional, but I have a small problem. In the Google Play Store, there is a very useful Android App called LTE Discovery, that allows you to see which LTE Band(s) your device is connected to, whether or not you're getting Carrier Aggregation, where the tower/cell site is located in relation to your current location, what your current signal strength is in dBm, etc.

So far, I've been unable to find any software or app for Windows 10 that provides the same kind of functionality. I always like to know what LTE Band(s) I'm connected to, and whether or not I'm getting Carrier Aggregated speeds. Have any of you found any Windows software to provide that functionality?!?

Welcome to the dead world of Microsoft Apps. There are very few left. In the end my thoughts are apps on all platforms (Apple and Android) will be replaced by mobile webpages and similar functionality. I have 2 windows 10 phones (Verizon and T-Mobile) and used to not having them.

I'd like to know about such an app as well. When I was actively using my windows phone, I looked for such an app without much luck. With most of the apps I need not being available on the windows phone market, I moved back to android full-time. Good luck!

Yes, Windows Phone (and the related desktop/tablet Metro apps) are a failure.

Netflix? Cool. Twitter? Cool. Email? Cool. Now I need "Snake" and that's all the apps I will ever need!

I'd heard about those and was just about to ask about that. Are there any particular ones you recommend? And have you found any that will specifically enable the full use of the LTE Discovery Android App on the LTE Surface 3 and Windows Phones?

I like Bluestacks. It is easy to install. I've not tried out the LTE hardware connection abilities of it.

Why not go ahead and try it in the Surface 3?

Went ahead and tried it. It runs VERY slowly on the Surface 3, ridiculously so, in fact. It's also useless for using LTE Discovery; apparently the app can't find the LTE connection info on the Surface 3. And BlueStacks couldn't even properly run my Android Scrabble clone that I play.

There is one app like that.you have to sideload it. It's called cellmapper beta . Developer says Microsoft wouldn't allow him to upload it to the store. Works great. The app is on xda. You have to also install a .net file for it to work. It comes with the zip file

Since my last post, I discovered that my Surface 3 has Verizon Wireless Connection Manager software on it! I don't remember downloading and installing it, so either mine is one of the Verizon Wireless ones, or VZW did a deal with MS for that software to download and install whenever a VZW connection is used. Either way, I was hoping it would give me the same options as the Connection Manager for my VZW Jetpack, where I would be able to see what LTE Band I'm connected to, but no such luck was to be had. That functionality is disabled on the Connection Manager software for this device.

oh to sideload install the app, you have to be in developer mode. sometimes it still won't install that way so you have to turn device discovery and device portal(settings>update&security>for developers). the device portal page is normally the ip address on your router(for example if your router puts your phone on 192.168.2.3, that is the device portal page). it is protected by pin. the pin you get by pairing the device(settings>update&security>for developers then scroll down to device discovery and tap on the pair button to get the pin). Once you login, the page should say apps manager-windows device portal. in the middle of that page, there is a install app option. from their you should browse the download location of cell mapper zip file and add the package. But remember that this app requires the .net file, so add the dependency via the add dependency app. you only need the Microsoft.Net.CoreRuntime1.0.appx file once it is added, you can click on the go button in the deploy section.
