The Nighthawk apparently has that feature. But I have not seen that feature in the Explore. Which menu did you find it under?

For the Explore, go to 'Settings,' then 'Mobile Broadband', and at the top of this page, select 'SIM Security.'

The default PIN is 1111 and after that, enter any code to disable or enable SIM Security.

If, however, you did put your SIM into a Mobley and it upgraded to the new firmware, it would turn on the SIM lock so that if you took it out of the Mobley and tried to use it in the Unite Explore again, you would be asked for a PIN that you do not know.

That's what the discussion is about. There is a way to get it unlocked again if that happens which is discussed in the SIM thread.

Unfortunately you will need to read about this and consider the way to get past this (three entries of wrong code to get the PUK request on the SIM). Good luck.

Chatted up att. They gave me both my PUK codes after I had them email a pin identification to my email of record to verify me. No problem. Seems a routine request. The automated chat agent had to be told it failed in order to get a live chat agent.

For future reference, all you have to tell the automated chat is "let me speak to a customer support representative" and they'll put you in the queue.

That's strange. The fireware on my Explore is version NTG9X40C_11.14.08.35 with build date 4.10.2018.

I have never updated the Explore myself. However, with these recent SIM locking updates by AT&T with the Mobley, I would think twice before accepting a system update on a hotspot sold by AT&T with a Mobley SIM inside the device. I am fairly confident AT&T is not hunting down Mobley SIMs in other devices (yet) but these recent changes give me some caution for concern.

My Explore version is NTG9X40C_11.14.08.28, build date 8/24/17.

The only thing I see in my Settings\Broadbad menu is Domestic Data, International Roaming and Network Status. Nothing about SIM security. Fortunately I had another device that I could use to set it, but it's good to know that it is available on some Explore's.

The manual suggests that it is possible, on page 59. But of course any subsequent firmware updates would override what is in the manual.
