Yeah unfortunately you're probably right about that.

Best to just use it up or give it to someone who could get some use from it if you're not using it enough to make the balance go down much in case one day you check your account and find out that T-Mobile killed it or you missed topping up and the balance disappeared.

I should follow my own advice.

^I was just about to post the exact same thing. I topped up with $10 4 months ago at a store, and the clerk confirmed it was good for a year. I turn on the phone a few days ago and find it expired. Had to call to get everything back, and yes, been doing this for 5 years too.

    I check mine frequently.
I have the 2 sim cards in phones that have Web2Go so I can see the balance and plan and expiration date.
I had a feeling in late April that something was going on so I topped up all of my T-Mobile prepaid accounts and made screen shots of each one before and after I added the $10 via pins from Callingmart.

I really really should start using them because you never know when they might pull the plug on these Grandfathered plans.

Not a grandfathered plan but I also have the 3 plan and every once in a while it draws out of the balance instead of the minutes when a text comes in. 10 cents isn't a big deal but their systems do seem to glitch now and then. I had $1 balance but the last text brought it to 90cents. As for my gold rewards I didn't realize it expired so I lost it. The 3 plan is a nice emergency backup so I'll keep it long term.

    I have 3 T-Mobile Prepaid accounts.

Two are on legacy "Pay As You Go" which are Gold Rewards enabled and the other one is on the $3/day plan which used to be on Gold Rewards when it was on "Pay As You Go" but when I switched it to the $3/day plan, it stopped being on Gold Rewards. I didn't switch it to "Pay As You Go" after coming back to Canada from my trip in the US a few years back and luckily I didn't since they did away with their Per Day plans. I have to top up the $3/day plan, ~4 times per year ($40) and I use it ~$30/year (10 days of travel to the US in a year). To keep my balance from going too high, I also lend this phone to family who go to the US.

With my two Pay As You Go Legacy SIMs, I top them up with $10 per year but rarely use them. Eventually, I will just use them just to use up the balance since the balance is getting somewhat high.

^^We have a paygo legacy account that was started ~5 years ago. Each year I add $10 to it. That bumps the per min rate to 11¢/min. Usually takes a few tries to get the right csr to change it back to 10¢/min. The phone gets used minimally, usually less than $7 worth over the course of the year. At the moment, it's sitting at ~$85 balance and expires at the end of the month. Will refill it again with $10 and repeat the cycle. I'm not sure how many times we'll repeat the cycle. Too bad the funds can't be cashed out in any manner other than changing the account type, but then the legacy plan is lost.

Actually, you must be quite annoying to get the CSR to change your rate.
The 11 cents [or whatever] is correct. Adding $10 or anything other than $100
    dilutes the per minute rate.

You only get 10c/min if you add a $100 refill (1000 mins) -- adding $10/yr only gives you extra 35 mins/yr and rolls your balance forward

System will just average out the remaining balance & mins to give you a new rate per min -- 11c/min in your case (which is correct)

I just sent out a few test texts as it seemed my balance was falling quicker than it used to. When did picture text messages (MMS) go up to 30 cents? They used to be 25 cents. Even an emoji will trigger the MMS rate. I can't find anything on the T-Mobile website that addresses it. Short Message Service (SMS) rates are still 10 cents per text. I'm on Gold Rewards Legacy PAYGO.
