My house is where the road sign 90 is ( screen shot 1 ) which is 1 mile away from a T-Mobile tower where I still at home would get 1 bar of Lte and edge. Until few days ago when I get now 2-3 bars on band 5. Like I said before not sure where it's coming from. Perhaps this tower below in Wampee ( screen shot 2 )

Just haven't had time to drive and investigate that tower yet ( field test )

not sure how accurate this is, but the FCC has listed the locations of the 850mhz towers for them, http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsS...eNumToReturn=1

that might can help you figuring out where the towers are

B5 was inherited from SunCom which was acquired 8 years ago.

Right. The search tool is great. Looks like the first mention of that was made by roamer1 (R.I.P. Stanley) back in 2006.

Partially. Only North Carolina part. They are partially leasing SC part to Farmers Telephone. The leased area and a few more towers outside may satisfy the first buildout deadline after NC part is sold.

Unless they planned on trading it with ATT for the Band 12 A-Block, but hey, 10x10Mhz 850 is better than 5x5Mhz 700.....

And most of the current phones will support it as well....
Do you think tmobile might be stupid enough to trade their 10x10 850 band for 5x5 band 12 ? Tmobile might claim that band 5 is a stepchild band and doesn't fit in their plans for customer support. They need to keep it. I bet once they get the 700 cleared, they might swap. Dumb as it sounds.

Will band 5 travel further than the 700?

Band 5 won't travel as far, but I doubt they'd trade it. That's more bandwidth, and 99% of their B12 devices support it, as they typically get the same phones as AT&T.

Any difference is insignificant and 850 is not 10x10. It's 12.5x12.5 which means that they can run 10x10 LTE with 2.5x2.5 left over for GSM and 850 GSM will have much better range than 700 LTE. I've used AT&T's ER GSM 850 at over 50 miles.

As I recall (and my memory is far from eidetic) T-Mobile bought parts of SunCom. AT&T/Cingular got other assets from SunCom.

That would be ridiculous if they did that. And pretty much all modern devices support band 5 anyway, more so than B12 in fact.
