No coverage at Foothills U of C Med school in Calgary?

    Hi there,

In my visit to Calgary this week I had 0 coverage inside the University of Calgary Foothills Med building. The book store lady told me that TELUS had just installed a tower a few months ago. So everyone on TELUS and Bell had coverage.

It's 2016. How am I paying such a HUGE premium for crappy coverage? Granted in Toronto Rogers seems to be acceptable but when I travel do I have to be concerned?

Strange. I thought Rogers was the official provider for the University of Calgary. Figured they'd have the best coverage on campus.

You're probably right but this was at Foothills Hospital in the Med school, not on the U of C campus.

Rogers doesn't exactly have the best coverage in Alberta... Wait, is Rogers actually the official provider for U of C?

Not 100% sure about indoor repeaters but the tower map looks pretty full for Rogers in Calgary, and I have friends who swear by them that live in Calgary and go to U of C.

No coverage at Foothills U of C Med school in Calgary?

All the major carriers have indoor repeaters/DAS (not everywhere) but around here in Ontario, I've seen FAR more Bell indoor sites than Rogers, and it really shows by my often better experience on Telus vs my wife's experience on Rogers. Being an official provider or provider of choice doesn't mean they will always provide the best coverage...usually it should be the case but not always. Years ago (well before the Bell/Telus HSPA/LTE agreement and build-out), Rogers was the official provider for my employer but Bell was the only carrier to install indoor sites and had the best coverage there.

Please read my original post. Not talking about U of C campus. I'm talking about the Med school at Foothills Hospital.

I guess it's time to switch to Bellus. I've always found it silly that people use Rogers outside of Toronto maybe even Ontario.
Like some people have said in this thread so far. Bellus has superior indoor DAS and infrastructure.

It may not even be a tower that they installed that boosted the coverage. Perhaps Telus just install a DAS.

I'm guessing it depends on what agreement Alberta Health Services has with a cell provider.
Here in BC, all the Health Authorities have a agreement with Telus as their provider, so Telus has been installing indoor repeaters in Hospitals that are large enough to not get great signal inside.

What HUGE premium are you paying that the rest of us are not?

Exactly!! Why are WE paying this premium fee for sub-par coverage? You have a point.

On the island I believe from what I've seen all the major hospitals have a Telus tower on them. Royal Jubilee, Vic Gen, Duncan, Nanaimo & Comox.
