AT&T to increase price of grandfathered unlimited plans in February to $35

    http://9to5mac.com/2015/11/30/att-un...rice-increase/

AT&T subscribers who previously had unlimited data plans back in the iPhone 3G era and have managed to hang onto that plan are in for their first price increase in seven years, a source with knowledge of the matter has informed 9to5Mac.

The price jump won’t be huge—the almost-too-good-to-be-true rate of $30 will increase to just $35—but it does open the door to further tinkering later down the line, which may make some customers a little uneasy. The change will go into effect in February 2016.

As is currently the case, talk and text costs will be separate from the data fee.

T-Mobile recently raised its own unlimited data price along with the announcement of its “Un-carrier X” offer, though that was a much larger jump from $80 to $95. Verizon also updated its own unlimited plan recently with a $20 price hike, making AT&T’s increase the most generous of the bunch.

Although nobody likes price increases in general I'd say that $35 for unlimited data on the AT&T network is well worth it. Heck I pay $100 (before my 28% discount) for 20GB's but I can use that data anyway I want to including tethering.

Does anyone on this board actually pay for the old Nation unlimited talk/text with an UDP and what does that cost?

We never like price increases but at least att isn't reaming like the others. 5 increase isn't too bad for att lte.

Consumers and businesses are using mobile data at record levels and the trend is expected to continue. To help ensure we continue to provide the best service for all of our customers, a small price increase is being made at this time. This is the first price increase in 7 years.

Customers who have a grandfathered unlimited smartphone data plan will receive notifications of a $5/mo. rate increase for the data plan. The rate increase will take effect starting with the customer’s February, 2016 service.

    Important to know
This price increase will not impact your current unlimited data speeds. You’ll still be able to enjoy the nation’s most reliable network and will only see reduced speeds if you exceed 22GB of data in a billing cycle and are in a congested area. Learn more about reduced speeds for smartphone unlimited data plans.

You can change your plan at any time. Learn more about the benefits of Mobile Share Value and how to switch today. If you switch to a different plan you will not be able to switch back to your Unlimited Data plan in the future.

Should you decide to cancel your wireless service because of the $5/mo. increase, we will waive the early termination fees (ETFs) for the lines impacted by the price increase, so long as you cancel within 60 days after the price increase first appears on your bill. If you cancel after that time, you will be subject to the usual ETF.

As with all service cancellations, if you have a smartphone on an AT&T NextSM installment plan for the lines you are canceling, the cancellation will require the remaining NextSM balance to be paid.

But in a way its not a direct comparison to tmobile. Tmobile still sells unlimited plans but for $95.

Grandfathered customers didn't get the price hike of $15 from $80 to $95.

The price increase affects new customers, whereas on att and verizon it affects old customer directly

Yeah I can live with that, I actually expected worse. Can't say I'm not surprised especially with the increases at Verizon and T-mobile. It was only a matter of time.
