The ZTE Axon Pro is available, but is $130 more for more ram and an even more outrageous display.

axon is/was interesting. the only thing I didn't like was the faux grills gave the impression of dual front facing speakers, but it actually only has a single mono speaker at the bottom. that might not matter to others, just wanted to point it out

But those JBL plugs that come with the phone makes all the difference in listening to music. That's where the so called stereo effect comes from. I'll update once I get them.

The Google Nexus 5x is available for around $299 with various offers that drop the price even further.

If I'm going to spend $199 or more these days the manufacturer must officially support Marshmallow, not 'maybe' or 'you can root.' Knowing ZTE, if they haven't announced support of Marshmallow there's a strong chance they never will.

The specs on the Axion are a lot stronger than the original Zmax, which was selling for the same price about 9-12 months ago. If you signed up with Metro, you got the Zmax cheaper. But the processor and screen display of the Axion destroys the Zmax, which is still a decent phone, running Kitkat. But I have outgrown the Zmax. And that does not include double the Rom on the Axion. Moreover, those JBL e13 in ear headphones that come with the Axion are worth about $50. That puts the price of the Axion at about $150. And yes, based on what I saw on the Zmax, there will most likely be no upgrade to Marshmallow. Still a good deal, considering one gets all the LTE bands for T-Mobile (including band 12) and AT&T IMO. No surprise that deal sold out quickly on Newegg for $199 (with $130 off). No way I buy that for $329 or even $250.
