Ok, I'm going to be replacing my ipad air 2 lte with a surface pro 4. Today I went to purchase a used 763 from craigslist. I took the sim card from my ipad and, with an adapter put it in the 763. It would connect and then disconnect from the network, never achieving success.
My question, is there a different type of sim card required? Does it require different network settings? Or, was this just a bum 763?

You did try it before paying and verified the IMEI is not on the black list right?
I did not buy it. I tested my Telus sim and it wouldn't work. I'm going to meet a different seller today and see if that one works. How do you check the IMEI?
^Some where on the Device IMEI number will be listed.
Was the 763 Telus Branded or not? if not, it could be locked or on the black list as others have said.
It may need Telus APN to be input.
It was locked to Telus and I used a Telus sim. I took the sim from my working ipad air 2, used an adapter and tested the 763. I then put the sim back in my ipad and it worked fine
Here it is:

But I think it's pretty useless. The first small print at the bottom says:
"This service only identifies wireless devices reported lost or stolen to participating Canadian wireless service providers as of September 30, 2013."
Seriously? It's amost 2016!
Cell phone history:
Motorola DPC 550 - Ericsson DF388 - Sanyo SCP-4000 - Samsung SCH-N150 - Samsung SCH-T300 - LG TM520 - LG VX-4600 - BlackBerry 6750 - BlackBerry 7250 - Samsung SGH-807 - T-Mobile Dash - Motorola RAZR - BlackBerry Bold 9000 - BlackBerry Torch 9800 - Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (rooted) - Samsung Nexus S - Samsung Galaxy S III LTE (rooted, running SlimBean 4.3) - Oppo Find 7a - Moto X Play - OnePlus 3T Midnight Black Limited Edition - Huawei P20 Pro
Thanks, but I read that to mean 2013 was when the list started.
Met up with the 2nd person on Craiglist that had a 763S for sale. Popped in my sim and it was happy, so I paid the man!
