Holding a number for 2 years

Let's say I'm leaving the country for a while, perhaps 2 years. I want to put my number "on ice" in case I would like to use it on my return. Is there a cheap way to do this? E.g., porting my number to a very long expiry pre-paid plan? Something that works out to $10 a month would be too much, but something like $1 might work.

Dunno if ringto works north of the border, but that is very reliable + 100% free. Can continue to use it forward to VoIP for inbound, use their app text and voice, groove IP integration...

Porting to free phone line is a one time fee, no recurring fee, about $30. Before but might have gone up a little. Since its voip, you can even use it overseas.

    Thanks for the idea.

I was looking to save my old number and did just this.

$25 + tax one time fee from FPL/Fongo

Glad it works out for you. I have ported in to them twice.
