Even more permits for more AT&T fiber optics were just filed in my area, not exactly next door but does show they are serious about upgrading the area. Looks like this whole area is in the beginning stages of a larger fiber optics buildout, likely with 5G in mind which will need all the fiber optics backhaul it can get to keep speeds good for everyone. I do expect new 5G antennas, small cells, added fiber backhaul and everything else and we will see how AT&T and Verizon compare but I am seeing more fiber optics deployment now from AT&T than I am from Verizon where I am and AT&T is known to be building out 5G in NYC with some parts active with business services, while Verizon hasn’t even opened up NYC as a 5G market. By 2020, this area should be blazing fast on AT&T 5G and every property including Multi dwelling unit will be accessible with no wires necessary allowing AT&T to be used for home broadband as well as wireless services. 5G imho is more competitive than Docsis cablemodem based services. My building does not allow Verizon FIOS in so competition here is now RCN Cable vs Spectrum Cable vs wireless services. If I can get a home based router for 5G as well as a tablet plan for mobile on AT&T I will be doing that if the cost is reasonable. RCN and Spectrum are awful and I personally do not nor will utilize Docsis Cablemodems anymore. Soon this forum will transition to 5G speed tests and I expect consistently high speeds far in excess of the current speeds. An extensive fiber build with 5G delivery is going to be pushing speeds in excess of 1GB per second. AT&T is doing 5G and 5G+ for faster speeds in select markets. Fortunately New York City is included in the 5G+ market where I am seeing an even greater fiber optics buildout. Not sure how 5G vs 5G+ will differ in speeds. As I always felt before, AT&T needed more backhaul, and closer antennas and 5G+ in this market looks to be doing just that.

That phone is lacking bands 14 and 66. Have you compared to a newer phone? Man, I sound like a Sprint apologist.

I have an Iphone 6S on Verizon. Saw the Sony Xperia 10 US version but its missing band 14 and dual sim. The international versions have more missing bands but dual sim and the processor is slower than I would like. The Xperia 5 is due out but it looks to be only one sim for the US too. Nokia 7.1 seems to be dual sim and the newer Nokia 7.2 I don’t believe is dual sim and its not certified for Verizon as of yet. I may just go with Apple again, I just don’t know what will come out for 2020 as all models already announced don’t seem to be an appropriate replacement yet.

Queens Place Mall is getting upgraded wireless in 1st quarter 2020 with mall upgrades. I am assuming this means a Distributed Antenna System specifically for the mall itself and all carriers will benefit including AT&T. I do know AT&T and Crown Castle and others have done work in the area in the past.

So I posted this for a friend. His wife has an iPhone XR. He’s going to check if her phone makes any difference.

I have AT&T as well and have noticed indoor coverage isn’t the best here. Haven’t been able to find any information regarding upgrades, if any.

Can’t comment on your area. In Forest Hills, NY, AT&T has filed for even more fiber optics conduit in several locations. Looks like an extensive buildout and there could be even more permits being filed in the coming days and weeks. We have fiber here in some locations, but I don’t know the previous route map. It looks like all new conduit along with manholes in places. Ive seen sporadic fiber optics buildout with AT&T before in Rego Park and Forest Hills border and Kew Gardens areas But never inside of Forest Hills itself. Just hook up 5G+ and speeds should be blazing fast! Verizon is also building additional fiber out in town in one section. Verizon has the most fiber optics around here and built up before AT&T and now AT&T is closing in and really starting to increase fiber optics density.

RCN has old cables and hasn’t done much work other than previous small scale additions in the past and Crown Castle has done a few extensions of fiber as well. Not sure who else is here with their own cables, could be others. My guess is Verizon will be the most dense for fiber optics here followed by AT&T at this rate which is closing in.

Verizon’s permit was nearby where the antenna replacement is permitted. Still am not sure who is upgrading there but i expect 5G+ small cells for AT&T all over town by 2020. I wonder how fast they will build it out.

Pretty standard test at work, needs more backhaul (and for 30 to actually work):

I wonder how many markets will be scheduled for 5G+. In Queens in NYC, an extensive Fiber upgrade is ongoing by me. They were using a circular drill to open the roads. It makes a lot of noise and leaves a huge pile of debris. A tedious process which will take awhile longer depending how much additional fiber optics is being added. Work hours are overnight which is when I passed by and saw the work. A lot of ongoing activity for fiber optics.

My side hasn’t seen any work and I don’t if it because AT&T already has fiber optics cables by here or they haven’t gotten to it yet. On the other side, there are permits not just in one section but multiple different sections and is the largest work of AT&T deployment I have seen for fiber optics conduit in this area.

Additional backhaul, including fiber optics should be deployed in all areas where it is economically viable. New York City just happens to be one where it obviously is. AT&T seems finally ready to get serious and lots of media coverage on AT&T’s network has been favorable for AT&T as of late.

Sitting in traffic this morning right next to a new small cell. So far only B2 from this, B46 hasn't been turned on yet. Not bad for just B2.Name: Screenshot_20190920-081907_Speedtest.jpg

You sure it wasn't connected to other bands during the test? Then when to just B2 when your checked service mode

256 QAM and 4x4 MIMO can give up to 400 Mbps on a single 20x20 LTE channel.
