    Any SOLO Subscribers Here

Joined today to exchange info with SOLO subscribers.

I have the prepaid service at 40/05 day/evenings plan and after 5 years have accumulated a balance of $450 which I am having a hard time reducing. About 2 years left at current usage.

I'm wondering, of course, how many of us are left and what plans Bell might have for us. I'd be happy to sell them my credit ... Ha! Ha!

Solo is nearly dead (rather unfortunately) after Bell devoted all resources to Virgin
They had some great grandfathered plans just no hardware being offered
It is sad I need to state the obvious but some people just don't get it. Any posts I make are my own OPINIONS and in no way represent the views of my employer

^I would stay put because they are soon going to be turning off the CDMA network, so they will offer you a Free Cheap HSPA Phone

If you have a large accumulated balance you'll never use, the best way to get the money out of the hands of the phone company is by SMS donation (see Mobile Giving Foundation Canada for a list of charities). MGF can issue you a tax receipt via their website.

    Nope
Bell (Solo) limits your donations to a max of $30 per short code (either 4 or 5 that work on Bell)

Funny considering they will happily let you rack up thousands in short codes to crap like Jamster yet limit charity

$30 per short code ever or per month? Spread it out over 5 short codes per month and the balance can be emptied in a few months. One big tax receipt can then be issued.

I do recall now when helping a friend give his balance on Virgin, he hit the $30 limit on one code and had to switch to another charity.

Yeah but problem is (if you check the mobile giving site) most charities are grouped together
From what I have seen 99% of charities people care about are lumped under 2 short codes (eg send different keyword to same number)

Some of the short codes that exist are nearly worthless (as if you donate you are simply dumping; I am skeptical anyone knows about or cares about certain charities outside of local communities)

It would make more sense to me to allow larger donations to more reputable charities (eg Red Cross)

At least of OPs first donation he can also claim the CRA super saver credit (one time)

BTW wow more posts in Solo forum than in last 5 years or so

Hmm well let's see how many unique donation short codes there are...
    45678
    41010
    20222
    30333
    80100
Each one has at least one charity I'd be OK with donating to. So at $150/month it would be possible to clear out that balance.

It's possible but remember instead of dropping $450+ you are wasting the $30+ on monthly fees for the 4 months

    80100 is really worthless though
When I look only 2 valid shortcodes (oh yeah that's the other rub, many of the shortcodes listed on mobilegiving are out of date so it is harder to donate than it should be)
