How to delete multiple texts without deleting entire thread Moto G LTE 4.4.4

Using stock Messaging app, not hangouts.

I'm trying to figure out how to delete multiple individual text messages within a thread without deleting the entire thread. On my old phones running 4.1 I could long press the individual text message which would then allow me to select additional messages and delete them in one action.

With my Moto G 4.4.4, when I long press a message it only allows me to delete that message. It does not allow me to select additional messages to delete. I have to long press each message to delete them, which is time consuming. Again, I don't want to delete the entire thread, only multiple messages within the thread.

    Any help?

You can do what you are describing using a third-party messaging app like Textra. Long-press a single message which then allows you to select multiple messages within a thread for deletion.

I've been wondering the same and haven't been able to find a solution with the native messaging app.

I guess that's one of the down sides of having a fairly close to stock version of Android. Some praise Moto G for having a bloatware free vanilla version of android 4.4.4, but I find it lacks many of the features I'm used to with other phones. For example, the lack of a basic weather app, file manager, note pad and more advanced keyboards. Now I have to purchase these apps or deal with advertisements from the free versions. I did add Open Camera, which gives much greater control over camera and video settings. Much recommended.

Have you tried Textra yet? It is highly functional, well-reviewed, free, and ad-free.

Not yet. I may give it a try. I'm just a little leery to use a 3rd party app for something as personal as texting or dialing. I imagine google is already collecting all my data, not sure I want a 3rd party developer doing the same. These developers have to make money somehow...right?

Using textra on my nexus 4. Much better than the stock messaging app.
