Will a Sprint iPhone 5S work on AT&T?

Recently left Verizon for Sprint and took my iPhone 5 with me. As many know, a Verizon iPhone 5 can be used on AT&T or T-Mo without jailbreaking and unlocking. I'm told the same is true with Sprint iPhones. Can anyone confirm this is the case? I'm thinking about trading my Verizon iPhone 5 for a Sprint iPhone 5S. Naturally I'll check before completing the trade but wanted to ask this forum.

BTW, the owner of the 5S says Sprint has factory unlocked the phone and it works internationally on other GSM networks so I assume all is well.

    Thanks

Will a Sprint iPhone 5S work on AT&T?

According to what I read in this thread, no, a Sprint iPhone 5S will not work on AT&T even though it does technically have the bands that are necessary. Once unlocked a sprint iPhone is only good for international gsm use.http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1650452

Sprint currently maintains a policy of not unlocking phones for domestic use, even if they would be compatible with another network. They, as well as the other major carriers, recently agreed to the new FCC voluntary unlock policy and have stated they will allow unlocks for phones bought on or after February 15, 2015.

To answer your question, no, Sprint will not currently unlock an iPhone 5s for domestic use.

No problem. If you can get a Verizon 5S that will work on AT&T and T-Mobile here in the US along with other prepaid carriers.

Sprint iPhone's will not work on domestic carriers even when unlocked. That will change for all Sprint iPhone's manufactured/ purchased after Feb 2015.

Just wanted to update an old thread with some recent first-hand experience and info...

I have an iPhone 5s 32gb and iPhone 5c 16gb that were bought on sprint about 2 1/2 years ago. About two weeks ago I called and had them domestically unlocked through Sprint. They tried giving me a hard time and telling me that you have to cancel your contract and wait 72 hours for them to automatically perform a domestic unlock. I looked up their unlock policy (sprint.com/legal/unlocking) and there was no mention of having to cancel a contract, then wait 72 hours. As long as you meet the criteria highlighted in the link I provided they have to unlock your phone and will do so once you cite their policy from that page.

Once I had the phones unlocked, I called AT&T and had them send me the new SIM cards to be used in our phones. We installed them and ported our numbers over from Sprint. Once we had everything set up they worked perfectly on the AT&T network. Our data, talk, and text have performed very well for both of us and we have had full functionality for the past two weeks. So, in my experience, YES, you can use a Sprint iPhone 5s and 5c on the AT&T network without any issues.

Just thought I would throw that out there since I couldn't find anyone with a solid answer when I was looking.

    BONUS!!:

AT&T offers family plans on their website that currently go something like the following: 2gb, 5gb, and 15gb shared data. The leap between 5 and 15 gb plans seemed pretty extreme to me both in cost and amount of data offered. So I went into an AT&T store and talked to a rep and he told me they still offer older plans that they don't advertise that may better suit my needs. He told me about a 10 gb shared data plan that costs $80 plus $15 line access fees. He said that it can be hard to get them to offer you these plans, but they definitely do exist.

I called AT&T and told them I have a friend who recently switched from Sprint to AT&T, just like I did, and he was offered the 10 gb plan. The first person I talked to didn't really know what I was talking about and transferred me to some kind of "specialist." Once I got on the phone with them, I gave her the same story and she knew exactly what I was talking about and set it up for me right away. It took her a minute to do. She said it's an old plan they don't usually offer anymore and she had to use a different method to set it up. After about 5-10 minutes I was all set and ready to go!

I couldn't believe how well all of this worked out, especially with the "secret plan" I got! I searched all over the internet and couldn't find anything about this plan at all! Almost seemed to good to be true!

Anyway, I hope someone finds this helpful!
