Battery Backup for VOIPS

HI guys, i have a voip, Magic Jack, at home, and I just realized i wouldn't be able to make any calls if there was a power outage for 911 or other emergencies….

Is there a UPS that someone can refer me to, that could last a few good hours on battery, that would keep my modem, router, and Majic Jack up and running?

1. Maybe something else stops without power ... phone service, internet service, desktop computer .... how much do you need to back up... how quickly, how long, how frequently.

2. My phone service has a 12-volt back up battery and runs for about 6 hours after the power stops. I'm in a major town with underground utilities. I get a brief outage .. 10 or 20 seconds ... every few weeks. Except for the UPSs beeping I don't notice. Once or twice a year I get a hour or more without power.

My cordless phone, my fax machine, my voip box (Skype) when I used one, and my cable modem were on my UPS. My UPS uses a 7 amp-hour battery and runs 7 minutes at a 200-watt load. Therefore I would expect it to run a 20-watt load for 70 minutes - probably more at the lower drain rate.

I'm happy with a lower quality UPS (APC-brand) ; my neighbor suggests a sine wave UPS like a Liebert-brand would be a better choice. (Allotta consumer electronics has trouble with square-wave AC.)

I ran my BBS off a UPS with three 7 am-hour batteries and I could run thru a hour power outage ; I did consider running everything off of 12-volts (and solar-power, too) but my fax machine and desktop PC demand 120-volts AC.

Caution : don't add a bigger 12-volt battery to a UPS you're going to run at full output ; part of the design is the UPS internal temperature rise to design limits with the stock battery. A bigger battery will lead to thermal failure.
