I currently have Nationwide 450 with 2 lines - one with unlimited data and one with 200mb data. I am considering switching to this plan but I currently have a subsidy I would want to use. Could I use the subsidy, sell the unlimited plan on eBay, then port over to this plan without needing to pay the $40/month for the upgraded line?
Not 100% sure how you could sell your unlimited plan on ebay?

I'm not sure...I see people on ebay do it all the time. They are still under contract but can transfer responsibility over to a new owner per the terms

Probably, but you'd have trouble selling it because the unlimited is throttled at 5GB.

I see them go for about $300 on ebay. The price may drop though with these new plans

Definitely a step in the right direction though but prices should be better.

This is the plan that finally uprooted me from my grandfathered setup and got me on Mobile Share . My savings were so huge that my wife was able to buy a phone on NEXT12 and us still realize a monthly savings.
My opinions are my own and do not reflect the opinions of my employer AT&T.

Reality check, here - saving $100 month buys (almost) 4 iPhones over 24 months !

I switched (they butchered my bill, but that's another thread) & will save ~ $45 month. I just bought my Lumia 1520 (ebay $425. NEW) outright, I'll wait for the prices of devices (hmmm, poet & didn't know it) to drift downward.
The savings will pay for a new phone every year. Add sub'd price $199. + upgrade fee $36. + savings $540 = $775 would buy me any phone on the market... & 10gb shared might as well be unlimited, we normally used about third of that, but my plan was cheaper w the bigger data bucket !
informed/intelligent comments are welcome ... BS - not so much ...

    peace,
    ROK

When I do the math, it's cheaper for me to keep my old plan:

Mobile Share with Next (25% discount applied):
    15 - 1st line
    15 - 2nd line
    75 - 10GB data (discounted)
    6.99 - insurance, 1st line
    6.99 - insurance, 2nd line
    ------------------------------
    118.98 - total plan price

    32.69 - iPhone 64GB on 20 month Next plan
    28.85 - iPhone 32GB on 20 month Next plan
    -------------------------------------------------
    61.54 - total phones price

$180.52 - total Mobile Share plan and Next phones

700min family plan with unlimited data and free A-List
45 - plan and 1st line and 200 additional bonus minutes (discounted)
    9.99 - 2nd line with 200 additional bonus minutes
20 - unlimited texts with any mobile to anymobile calling (AT&T save plan)
    6.99 - insurance, 1st line
    6.99 - insurance, 2nd line
    22.50 - unlimited data, 1st line (discounted)
    22.50 - unlimited data, 2nd line (discounted)
    ------------------------------------------------------------
    133.97 - total plan price

    16.63 - iPhone 64GB (399 price split 24 months)
    12.46 - iPhone 32GB (299 price split 24 months)
    1.50 - activation fee (36 split 24 months)
    1.50 - activation fee (36 split 24 months)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    32.09 - total phones price

166.06 - total family plan price with phones

I see a 14.46 monthly price savings by keeping the old plan. I lose out on tethering and a yearly upgrade though. Also, when I buy new phones, all I have to do is pay the taxes instead of putting down $700 right there. I'm still torn on if it's worth it.

So, can someone help me decide what's best? I am on my parents plan and I am grandfathered into unlimited with my iPhone. I do feel bad, though since my mother and sister have smartphones and are paying a lot for even 300 MB data plans. We are paying $225 I think or so a month right now for 700 minutes (never even close with unlm m2m). We have 5 lines.

I would be willing to switch if it's much better deal. My question is, how does this handle if they want a new phone or my brother and father want to get smartphones? Would this end up cheaper if they still wanted subsidized phones (or does Next make sense?)? 15 GB seems like it would be the minimum.

You're only paying for 20 months on NEXT, thus savings in months 21 thru 24 offset the 14.46 saved per month (it's about a dollar difference).

NOW, it's your decision to keep the old plan or switch - your assumption about sub'd prices of iPhones may be flawed, the upfront subsidy could go up as an effective means of eliminating subsidies.

As far as NEXT, I purchased my Lumia 1520 online (ebay) & saved ~ $150. - I payed $425 + $4.95 shipping; Next would cost $580 + tax ... AT&T COR stores are NOT the only source of phones. In your case, if you could pay for those, I'd buy unlocked phones directly from Apple for the same price !
WARNING: Do your homework, if buying your phone online, thru a third party (or Craigslist) ... it could become a disaster.

BTW - you still have access to a subsidy with new Value plan, it would just involve $600 (24 months x $25 additional per phone) + the upfront cost of the phone !

If you really look around, AT&T is trying to wean existing customers off subsidies, while dangling subsidies in front of New customers as an enticement. As always, YMMV ... good luck w your decision.
