LOL Nokia phones not popular in the US either.
All OS platforms have weaknesses but windows phones just as the windows PC platforms have horrible stability, virus and malware issues. It is no wonder Nokia sales have fallen. Or a wonder that Nokia is playing with the idea of a android based phone. Or that Microsoft makes more from each android phone sale than they do a windows phone sale.
I use to be a big Microsoft fan. But I learned over time that MS was just interested in money and not producing a good product. I spent more in the first five years of owning PCs running windows OSs. Than I have in the last 15+ years running Linux, Android and Mac.
I was a late comer to computers but I know that Microsoft and windows are pathetic.

Of all the complaints I've seen about WinPho these are none of them. In fact it more accurately describes Android. Source?

Windows phone is different than windows pc...
For sure windows phone is more stable and more unique interface ( no touch wizz sensee and others ... )
THis phone work really great... but too limited in fonction apps games etc... but games is great when it's xbox live game...
nokia 1020 is great too... for camera
nokia 625 ... very fluid and great entry ... with lte...

but again... many people think.. windows = **** !

    Actually it is fairly surprising
Nokia was in old days a huge brand leader
Windows phones were never leader, but back in version 5 & 6 were very popular (I still think the disaster that befell 7 is still carrying over so people are unwilling to even try 8)

Blackberry is in same boat (good product but noone is buying)
It is sad I need to state the obvious but some people just don't get it. Any posts I make are my own OPINIONS and in no way represent the views of my employer

Have you considered that it might be you? I've been using Windows since Windows 3.0, and I've only ever had one virus/piece of malware in my life, and that was my fault for doing something stupid, not Microsoft's. A vast, VAST majority of Windows security and malware issues are because of user error.

Having said that, Windows Phone does not have a malware problem. It is a very secure platform when compared to Android. Many businesses (Albeit, mostly in Europe where WP is far more popular) are switching to it from Blackberry for that very reason.

Of all the criticism of WP platform, system stability is definitely not the issue. Out of all the devices that I own (Android, iOS, WP, webOS) I find WP (the OS itself) being the most stable.

What I do not like about WP is that MS was trying to do too much integration with the various social networking platforms instead of letting the respective apps do their things (For example - Twitter: although they have Twitter integration, the integration does not support DM; to do DM, you must use Twitter app.) Google's sabotage of WP doesn't help either (just take a look at the Youtube app mess).

Then there is Nokia, which if you watch their presentations, you would think that they are in the camera business instead of the mobile phone business.

Cross platform messaging (MSN messenger) and storage in the cloud (Windows Live Folders/Skydrive) have already existed long before Apple uttered the words "iMessage" and "iCloud", but MS has never marketed those features as their strength of their platform.

Dear Professor, It might be that you don't get out of the ivory tower much. I challenge you to find one virus in WP8 or on the Metro side of Win8. The reason MS makes so much on each android phone is that they have invented a lot and Google thought they could just "use it" without any remuneration. As a professor you should know that taking someone else's work is frowned upon.
