Tri-Band LTE Devices start to take Shape!

Looks like we're well on point towards the release of Phones by a Sept time-frame. The re-release of the S4 with Tri-Band LTE chip will probably kick things off.

International LTE capability via GSM, Novatel and Netgear...interesting.

The S4 should have launched tri-band. There should be WiMax/LTE devices to take advantage of both networks as a interim stop-gap to slow speeds. WiMax coverage is 3-4x bigger than LTE.

There has been the "Tri-Fi" Hotspot with LTE WiMAX and 3G, but no phones I'm sure due to such a short window.

I think Sprint is still trying to forget about that WiMax thing ever happening.

The Tri-band Chipset wasn't ready when the S4 was, and Sprint wasn't going to sit back and delay the S4 by months to other carriers, even Verizon needed to move up the release of it's S4 buckling under pressure of being the only carrier without it....

That's a waste of time, plus their no battery large enough to sustain the power that would need, Wimax is going away.....the solution is if your area has WiMax and no LTE, you keep your WiMAX Phone until LTE comes.

You can currently do that on a single band device if you have LTE coverage.
    Thrill me...

You can do that with just 3G (SVDO) simultaneous voice and data. This feature works daily for me on my EVO.

That would be the Evo 4G LTE just for clarification. There are only a handful of phones that support SVDO.

I'm really excited for the tri- band phones to come out! I'd like to have LTE deep inside buildings and in rural areas far away from cell sites. I also hope apples 5S has tri-band support too.

So if I get the s4 now and i am in an area that has lte, i assume this is the same as 4g?, then i can talk and surf at the same time? What are the benefits of a tri band over a single band?

At least where I live, out in the wilds of northern NJ, there is barely a decent 3G signal, and forget about LTE! Discussions like this depress me.

This will be interesting to see what ultimately announced a few months from now.

Smartphones from Samsung and LG with tri-band capability are expected to be available to Sprint customers before the end of the year.
