    Current Veteran Discounts Questions

    Verizon Wireless.
    Veterans Discounts.
    Smartphone.
    New Customer.

I have done a search and have read the posts.
Some of the information is dated.
I have visited the Verizon web site - and information is a tad difficult to find.

Does anyone know what the current discounts for Verizon Wireless Smartphones?
    Veterans.
    New customer.

There appears to be two parts to a monthly bill - the service and the data. Then there are phones and accessories.

What part or parts of the monthly bill are discounted?
What is discounted and what is not discounted. And what is the current discount?

    Thanks.

You should try contacting your veterans benefits group for information. The discounts may differ depending on your rank and/or prior service.

The discounts are individually negotiated by the companies and groups. The amount, terms, and scope, are unique to each. How "good" they are, probably depends on the number of customers the company or group could delivery to VZW.

    Thanks all above for responding.

I guess I am seeking a response from those who have done this recently. Probably a US military veteran.
The code is 117818 I am told.

Military discount is 15% across any branch, which I think its too little compared to other ones. Should just be able to walk into a verizon store and show your military id for them to apply it there.

Here's the form I used. Fax'd it along with a copy of my DD214. Redacted all but the last four of my SS#. 15% discount on basic bill and 12% on data plan.

    How long ago was this?

The reason I ask is that I was at a local Verizon company store and the CS lady stated to me that nothing off basic bill and then 15% off the data plan. Only 15% off data and 25% off accessories - that was it. Nothing off basic portion.

    Are other veterans getting different?

rlwetzel was explaining how the discount worked for older style plans. These days, on share everything, only the data plan is discounted. Veteran or otherwise.

Yea, now the discount is only on the data portion of the plan. It is still 15% on every carrier as far as I know.

It's 15% off the account part, not the line access fee. Also, I'm not sure about the accessories. I very seldom get my accessories from Verizon.

The US government negotiated the discount. Should tell you how well they negotiate.

    Here is the list.

All average between 15% and 20%. Only off the Data Plan portion of bill. Not the whole bill.

I don't think that the US government negotiated anything for the veterans. Any discount came from the folks running Verizon Wireless.

The discount is only for the data plan - which for me would be about $6.00 per month.

Home Depot and Lowe's provides a 10% discount for active duty military and retired military. No one negotiated any of this. All came from the folks that run Home Depot and Lowe's.
