How do I type while on a call? Kyocera Rio E3100

I got my new Kyocera Rio E3100 today - moved my minutes over from a much older phone to this one - and have been checking out the phone.

I got a voicemail, and need to retrieve my voicemail. So how do I type in my voicemail password while connected to a call (connected rather, to the voicemail computer voice who is impatiently ordering me to quickly enter my voicemail password or she will disconnect me).

How do I bring up the virtual keyboard to type my password and enter my password while on a call?

Help please... I feel dumb as a rock...
