Wink The IPhone 5 on Sprint SERO, Here Are The Answers To Your Questions!

I just posted this on another forum. I thought it would be helpful here which is why I have posted it as well. I hope you all agree.

OK Guys n Gals. I spent quite a bit of time getting my Preorder done so here is the story:

    1. Price Shows $649 If you find that the price changes to $649 online when you do have a qualified upgrade, back out all the way out and start over. This is a known bug in the system and they find that the second or maybe 3rd try it clears up and will give you the $199 Upgrade Price (if you are entitiled of course). If it doesn't work, you will need to call SERO / Employee Care and they can deal with it. They do know it is happening.

    2. SERO Premium IS allowed to have the IPhone 5. No problem, but you must have the SERO Premium Plan that has the $10 fee. So the $30 Plan will need to be upgraded to mthe $40 SERO Premium. Remember, if you switch to the Premium Plan, you get Unlimited Any Mobile to Any Mobile and Sprint Navigation as well. But besides the $10 Premium Upgrade there is no additional fees, clauses, or conditions.

    3. As with most any Online Equipment purchase with Sprint, it tells you that your plan is not compatible and you will need to change it. Ignore it. It will tell you that you will need to change the plan after you receive the phone and process the activation of the device. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR PLAN UNLESS YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SERO PREMIUM. Just ignore it and complete your Preorder.

    4. I spoke to an 11 yr SPRINT Veteran ( Excellent Job Michael!!) who hands down was the best Sprint CSR I have ever dealt with, in fact the best CSR Period. This guy was the best of the best. He said any issues they are there to help. That since Employee Plans took over the SERO Accts, we should already see the vast improvemnent in Customer Service, and I certainly have in the last 2 years or so.

5 APPLECARE.. Here is the deal. You get the Standard 1 Year Warranty from Apple. After that, unless you have opted for the $99 APPLECARE program, your TEP Insurance thru SPRINT WILL NOT COVER THE IPhone 5!. You have 30 Days from activation to add thge $99 Applecare package. Also, IT DOES NOT COVER LOSS OR THEFT. There is a $40 per incident deductible as well and your limited to 2 incidents. So if you have TEP (Total Equipment Protection Insurance) you will need to drop it. (Also, it is going up to $11 a month for you non IPhone customers I was told.) Read the APPLECARE Program carefully. After the phone is delivered and activated, SPRINT Employee Care CANNOT activate the APPLECARE Plan you will need to contact APPLE direct to add it. Remember, 30 days to put it on your phone, after that, you are not able to add it.

OK, that should cover everyones fears.(At least the big one's I have seen being discussed) Oh one last thing, SERO Plan holders WILL NOT pay the $36 Upgrade Fee!! It will not be on the first bill as it is stated. This I was assurred of as well.

I hope this helps and that everyone enjoys there new IPhone 5.:haha:

What's the SERO number again? Is it 888-882-4030?

    Really needs to be stickied.

Since Wiki is down I have some basic questions. If I have the $30 SERO and get an iPhone, does my contract go up to $40 + $10 immediately, or only once I activate? Could I keep my $30 plan and let my girlfriend activate the iPhone?

Or if I went to the $40+$10 SERO-P with the iPhone, and later decided that I didn't need such a nice phone, can I change back to the $30 SERO, or am I locked in at $40+$10 for the next 2 years?

Your plan doesn't change until you activate the phone.

I know for a fact you can switch from $40+$10 back to just $40, but I'm not sure about going from $40+$10 back to $30.

Typically, they make you upgrade to SERO-P just to order the iPhone, so you'll have to pay the higher amount before you even get the phone. At least, that's what happened to me when I got the 4S last year.

I was told (warned actually) that you can't go back to the $30 SERO if you go up to Premium. You can lose the $10 premium data charge if you go to a dumb phone, but it'll still be a minimum of $40.

I have changed my SERO 500 ($30) account to a premium ($40) account, added the premium data plan (+$10), removed the data plan, reverted back to the $30 dollar plan, etc., several times.

Also, the Employee Accounts direct number (no waiting on hold) is...

    (866) 264-1282

This needs to be stickied. Both as evidence of what can or can't be done (can you tell us the date of last time you did it?) as well as that direct number.

I've been on the old SERO $30 plan and was able to preorder HTC EVO LTE & Galaxy S3 without having to update, i do think it might of been a glitch that it was showing full price instead of the upgrade price if u qualified for a full discount.

as for converting back to SERO $30 plan, you just have to have a phone that qualifies to be on SERO $30 plan, as long as you meet these requirements u should be able to move back n forth

and last, when preordering a phone i didnt pay upfront the upgrade fee for being on SERO Plan, instead was charged on my first bill (i got charged first & last month because of renewal and upgrade fee)

    Thanks for putting this together.

Thoughts on Applecare and Squaretrade? Applecare will cover the phone for issues/repairs, while Squaretrade will cover the phone from accidents.

Awesome! That's a great tip! Thanks!

Good thing I never got rid of those old Palm 800w phones. I think my BIL still has a semi-functioning BB Curve I gave him ages ago.

So if I am understanding you correctly....I have SERO Premium already with the extra $10.00 for my HTC EVO 4G. I am waiting to get the iPhone5 thru Sprint. When I get the iPhone5, will Sprint remove the extra $10.00 charge I am currently paying for 4G making my monthly service $40.00 ???

No, Sprint will not remove the $10 premium data fee if you use an iPhone with SERO.

Unfortunatly you are wrong about this. The $36 activation fee is on the first bill after the upgrade. I guess I could call and ask them nicely if they will remove it but I doubt they will.
