When you cram 30,000 cell-toting people in a small area you are going to have contention issues. You will find that at most major events.

I was in the area of Canad Inns stadium (Winnipeg) and Telus was completely unusable. Data didn't work, I had to try 3 times before a call went through, and had one drop on me.
Seems like they need to upgrade their network in the Polo area.

I would assume it was congestion coupled with poor coverage. I was at the stadium and had (albeit slow) coverage and data with MTS, though.

Big events. Tends to happen to just about everyone.
Suggest watching the game is a good way to distract yourself from the problem.
When there is a break in play you can try:
Yell at the ref
Try to start a wave
Invent some clever taunts for the opposing team
Make a spectacle of yourself in an attempt to be featured on the scoreboard video screen
Chat with your fellow fans
If you must fiddle with your phone prepare ahead by preloading apps you might find fun but do not require a connection.
Use the camera to take pictures of you and your friends at the game
If you live right near the stadium and all of the above suggestions do not apply because you are not actually in on the fun but are still affected by the congestion problem on the local towers then that just sucks doesn't it?

Yup I was attempting to humourously point out the perceived backwardness of the Saskatchewanites.
