    Poor Service

i Know Alltel is going through a transition. But in the last couple of months my service has been terrible. As a business owner with 20 phones i'm about ready to move to another provider. Places that we used to have service not any more. Our phones are always roaming and dropping calls. Now the phones. We don't have to have the latest and greatest but come on Alltel. Does anyone know if or when this will be resolved?

I'm right there with you (although 3 personal lines), but same poor service (NW Ohio). If it wasn't for the ETF I really think I'd be gone. I'd be happy skipping the phones too if the service was as good as it was a year ago.

Alltel is pretty much dead. They had a ton of problems in our area before Verizon finally took over billing and I gave up trying to use my phone and switched carriers. Much better now!

Where in S. IL are you? Through this whole transition I've only had one day where data service was down and I've not found anyplace that my phone hasn't worked. My only issue with Alltel is the lack of updates to android, but that I can fix myself.

Mt. Carmel Area. When I'm at home and dial *228 i get "Welcome to Verizon wireless. Sorry we cant process your request." I've called tech support twice and was told nothing is wrong. Our rep just told us to be patient. That has been since July.

What PRL does your phone have? 31011 was the latest one my phone pulled down. That could be the problem. Did you have First Cellular before Alltel bought them out? Remember service was kind of crappy with FC on the edges of the area.

Prl is 31011. I started with First Cellular about 20 years ago. I rember getting that Audiovox phone installed in my truck in Mt. Vernon. I know where all of the dead spots are in my area. Alltel has been great untill the last couple of months. I was told by some one that we are now roaming on Sprint. This may be part of my problem.

I had them push down a previous PRL that supposedly did NOT prefer Sprint/Verizon towers, same results....

Its the new Sprint loving PRLs, not to mention all the switch routing issues that cause some outgoing and incoming calls not to work.
Still using a 3 watt analog bag phone in 2011!

At work, we have issues dialing some Alltel Customers. If Verizon ever get a new tower up near my town. Alltel will be doomed in my area.

The final straw happened this weekend. I hit a deer on a busy 4 lane hwy. Pulled over to check out the damage. Tried to call my son and "searching for network" was on the display. Luckly i could still drive the car.

    Ouch.....

They finally fixed my MMS message issue, wife can get the pics I took using my phone.

Called them up the other day to "discuss" the issues I've been having and requested that the ETF be removed from all three lines in case I need out early since they haven't done much for me last 6 months I've been complaining and having trouble. Tech sent me to Account Specialist who said she understood and opened a case with Financial Services for what it's worth. Just waiting to hear from them now.

I know nobody is perfect, but to keep advertising upgrades upgrades upgrades and the only result is an app store and angry birds free, come on.....

But that could happen with any carrier. I don't know about where you live, but here in Montana, I'd say at best your odds are 50/50 of having cell coverage if you pick any random point on state highways (higher on US highways and interstates)

This is very true. Some people go by this false belief that if they go with Verizon for example that they will have coverage everywhere. Then get mad when something happens, they need to use the phone, but can't because there is no service.

Earlier this summer my girlfriend and I went for a drive. She has Verizon and I have AT&T. When it was all said and done I asked her what she thought and she said it was a wash. Some areas AT&T had service Verizon didn't and vice versa.

The funny thing was a few days ago I had to deal with a customer that was passing through the Black Hills from MN.

That customer was one that actually was converted from Alltel to Verizon. They upgraded to an IPhone 4S and have had nothing but problems. Not with the phone persay. But getting the phone to properly work with the network. The original rep had worked for 2 hours trying to get it to work right. Sounds like the guy left the store with it as is. I called in to tech support for the guy and they were dumbfounded too. They couldn't get the phone to use any data at all even though it showed 3G and had good signal. Conversions don't go as smooth as some want to think. For some people maybe, but not everyone.

The Verizon network here has really gotten bad. Horrible. Data speeds are horrid and call quality is pure crap. But I admit there is still that mentality 'they are the best' and have coverage everywhere. Simply not true. I can't point out places on their map that shows good coverage and they have none. Zero. Zilch. Yet their map shows otherwise.

Today I dealt with a couple that switched to Verizon shortly after the conversion. Worked good the first few months now it's gotten real bad. Verizon Tech Support can't seem to help them. They are starting to regret the switch. It's been real bad for them even though the first few months were ok.
