Data is not just data. It also depends on which port it comes through.

Hey! Just new to the forums, and wanted to say that I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 5 working with full data on Petro-Canada mobile. These are fine:
Web Browser - Works, full speed
Youtube - Works, full speed
However, some things do not work properly. Siri has trouble connecting to the network, and only works with wifi, and the App Store doesn't work at all.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what may resolve these issues? Data is data, whether it's called mobile browser or not. I'm not operating at EDGE speeds, it works at full speed, there just may be some settings I'm over-looking.
Thanks!

Data is not just data. It also depends on which port it comes through.
right now, the apn defines port 80, maybe if i use no particular port...?
There's a reason it's cheap and unlimited, it's because they block most heavy usage ports. (or at least they did then I had them)
There are complex ways around it, but I won't discuss them here...
Hi,
I was able to get internet working after using the "iPhone Configuration Utility."
I'm having the same issues with being able to get internet/youtube, but no siri/email. I'd like a more complex workaround to get everything working well.
New here also,
Going to buy an unlocked iphone 4s from apple, how did you get it working on petro canada mobile,
I have a plan with Fido right now ,and i want to port my number to petro canada mobile,
i'm stuck on the micro sim of the iphone vs the regular sim of petro canada.
You dont need a sim cutter if you have a different microsim in the original plastic. I just used the rogers sim that came free with my iphone to create a stencil. Then used a marker to size my petro canada sim and cut it. It works fine and should save you the couple bucks on something you will only use once. When you pick up your iphone 4s instore they will offer you a free fido or rogers microsim.
Follow this guide and you shouldnt have any trouble getting the internet working (although as mentioned earlier, ports are blocked so you will be missing siri, email etc) http://forums.redflagdeals.com/petro.../#post10389075
Anther tip is to buy the cheapest phone if it's still on deal for 10 dollars with 50 dollars phone credit. Saves you 5 bucks from buying the sim separately and gives you a spare phone just in case.
Thank you all,for the advices.
I ordered a sim cutter on ebay, and my iphone is on the way next week.
I'm unloading the Fido account and porting my number to PC.
I was ready to renew my contract with Fido but without data, and pay the 200$ decf, but they wanted to force a data plan of at least 25 $ or a decf of 430$.
It's a joke,they think we can't count or what?
I'll keep posting here
See you next week.
Like title says. Can anyone verify if a Fido locked iPhone 4S works with a Petro Canada sim for simple voice and text? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the reply. Do you think a Petro Canada sim would work with a Rogers locked iPhone 4S?
Just wanted to chime in and say that my iPhone 4S works pretty well using a Petro Canada SIM. I do not use Siri, so no clue if that works or not, but the apps I use work without a hitch on 3G. Even signed up with a 403 Calgary number so that it works smoothly with my Google Voice account.
So what apps work and what doesn't with Petro-Can? Mail? whatsapp? iMessage? App Store? Weather? Opera? etc...
