    Nexus S Model Numbers

I am thinking about buying an unlocked Nexus S on eBay to use with tmo2go. Are there different models of the GSM phone that would not work with T-Mobile's 3G/4G network? Like will one that was originally sold by AT&T work with T-Mobile's AWS frequencies? I've never been able to find a definitive answer on that. If there is a difference is, what model number should I be looking for? Thanks.

Yes, there are different models. Make sure you get the i9020T and not the i9020A or i9023 (which is a lower cost model without the OLED backlit screen. It's SLCD). I got mine from Amazon directly and didn't have any problems. Just make sure it's the one with 900/AWS/2100Mhz UMTS bands and you're good (others are 850/1900/2100 and 900/2100 Mhz I think). The one sold by AT&T is the i9020A and won't get 3G on Tmobile, and vice versa.

Note: 900/AWS/2100Mhz UMTS is also sometimes written as 900/1700/2100Mhz UMTS. This is the same thing (Tmobile uses UMTS band IV which is 1700Mhz upload and 2100Mhz download). So if you see that, you're still good

Edit: the i9023 looks to have the 900/1700/2100Mhz radio and should also work on T-mobile 3G. It just has a worse screen. But stay away from the i9020A sold by AT&T, some Canadian Carriers, and possibly others. Always check the supported UMTS bands of the phone and the model #, and don't listen to merchants who say "they're all the same" (it's happened). They aren't.

No problem! It probably goes without saying but also don't buy the Nexus S 4G (SPH-D720) for Sprint, as it won't even take your SIM due to being CDMA/WiMax only.... :-)

I purchased the i9023 after looking at it and the i9020. IMHO I could not see a difference in either display. The i9023 was $80 less expensive ($90.40 with the HST). After upgrading to ICS it is a kick @ss unit.
