Official Motorola Triumph bootloader discussion thread

This thread, as per suggestion, has been created so we can analyze the bootloader of the device to see just what (if any) limitations have been placed on it.

I'm not super savvy with this stuff, so I'm not positive this is the same. Multiple people on the Trimph launch thread have reported success rooting the phone and attaining full superuser privileges utilizing the Gingerbreak exploit. Here is a link to the dev's gingerbreak post at XDA:

Try it out. I'd test installing Titanium backup/busybox/wifi tether etc.

Yes we know that gingerbreak will work(or atleast me). SuperOneClick rageinthecage will also root the triumph.

This was in the original thread, but for reference:

Unfortunately it looks like there's no custom recovery yet, but a few folks are working on Clockwork...that'll be instrumental for backup prior to testing anything out

Gingerbreak works for permanent root, so far all root required apps are working (not activated yet). Just download the apk, install, run root. Takes maybe 1 minute

What I suggested doing in the XDA thread:
Try hex editing some random bytes near the end of recovery.img (after making a backup of course) and sending it back to the phone.

You may want to try sending a backup of recovery.img back to the phone first just to make sure you can actually restore it if it breaks.

So the way to test for a locked boot loader is to change the recovery.img file to modify its checksum? I'm not that brave. Is there another way to answer your question?

So you want him to risk bricking his phone just so you can get your answers, Why don't you go buy one.
