Do people REALLY think the iPhone 4 is 4G?

Seriously. Please tell me that I'm not the only one hearing this! Numerous people I've talked to such as coworkers, friends, some family etc think that just because it has a "4" after the name, the Iphone4 is 4G!? I've tried explaining that it's NOT 4G. Some people believe me and some argue with me! Lol. Please tell me that I'm not the only one that's surrounded by morons!?

Haha, I've heard people call it the iPhone 4G and then try to convince me that it does have 4G. I have also had people come up to me and tell me about their new HTC Inspire 4G and brag about how fast the data speeds are compared to their old Blackberry or other smartphone. The kicker is that there is no 4G (or 4G-like signal) within 300 miles of my city. I find it so funny that people think that because their phone has "4G" connectivity that it will pull the signal from thin air.
Your results may vary. Network performance differs per user location.

G for generation means it is a fourth generation iphone or 4G

It doesnt help that most of the networks are claiming to have 4G now.

Of course they think it is 4G--4G network that is. Why? With all the advertising for 4G networks today (not even gonna address that issue), people would rather devote more time to watching American Idol than learning how to read.

My advice, cope. I rarely ever watch tv and I read alot. But hey, I like to keep my mind going, most just like to ensure the light turns on.

Yea... Lots of people here on hofo predicted this before it even launched. I actually had people try to pick fights with me on the board when I told them they were wrong in calling it the 4G, since that was never it's name. They were like "dur, but people KNOW it's just the name and the phone isn't actually 4G."

There are even some people who think current LTE and HSPA+ are 4G. Can you imagine that?

I just did a speedtest.net benchmark yesterday at a Clear 4G kiosk at the mall. 1.8 mbit down and 0.9 mbit up. In other words, AT&T's 3G on a good day can easily beat Clear 4G on a bad day. And don't even get me started on T-Mobile and their EDGE towers. People who believe their iPhone 4 is 4G may be incorrect, but 4G is still such a joke that they're really not missing much.

It doesn't help that Bell, Telus, and Rogers have now dubbed their 3G as 4G.
