Now that Nokia's out, others are interested.

""It's opening opportunities for the others to come in. Discussions are taking place. You'll see things coming out this year, pretty soon," Valtteri Halla, a member of the technical steering group of MeeGo, told a developer conference on Friday."

That's rather interesting. Initially Symbian was used by several phone manufacturers, Siemens, Samsung, Motorola, Sony-Ericsson, but in the end only Nokia was using it, and that's because they were squeezing everyone else out of the Symbian market. I wonder if the lack of interest in MeeGo (and Maemo) was because Nokia was involved, and they all saw that Symbian only worked for Nokia.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband.

Nokia seems to have placed all it's eggs in the WP7 basket. They once had big plans for MeeGo and Maemo but somewhere along the line Nokia cooled on the whole thing. Without Nokia's serious commitment I'm sure MeeGo is better off without them. But I wonder how important a committed Nokia could have been. I suppose we'll never know.

A very interesting point there "now that nokia's out, others are interested" , could we possibly see the WP manufacturers leave as Nokia comes in? Things are just beginning to get interesting.

Seems like Panasonic, LG, China Mobile, and now ZTE and Huawei has signed up on Meego. That's an awesome group if they are committed.

More breaking news. LG might be showing off Meego smartphone and tablet prototypes next month at the Meego meet.
