My costs: (I bought my stuff a few months ago)
    Straight Talk:
new AT&T iphone 4 32GB on ebay $480 (sold my old iphone 3GS on eby for $200)
    Nokia E71 walmart.com $190
2 years of Straight Talk service $1,080
Total 2 Year Cost $1550 (includes subtracting amount from 3GS I sold)
    Cost Per Month $64.58

    AT&T:
    New AT&T iPhone 4 32GB w-contract $300 (sold my old iphone 3GS on eby for $200)
    2yrs of service w-my pervious plan $2,280 (900 min, 1000 txt, 2gb data)
(900 anytime minutes was pretty much unlimited for me b/c of n&w and m2m and i dont use more than a 1000 txts in a month anyway)
Total 2 Year Cost $2380 (includes subtracting amount from 3GS I sold)
    Cost Per Month $99.17

    Total Savings over 2yrs $830
    Savings per Month $34.58
    Definitely worth it to me!

As to the risk, there really is none. If ST boots me off for violating their TOS by putting their sim in my iPhone then I still have my iphone and there are several other pre-paid providers out there I can use my iPhone with. I used to have H2O wireless on my iPhone 3GS. I use Straight Talk because they offer the most data for the money and roaming. I can’t find any other pre-paid GSM provides that offer anywhere close to 2GB of data on AT&T's network or the ability to roam onto T-mobile towers. So if ST ever boots me for using my iPhone I will just go back to using H2O wireless and they just upped their data again (orignially 50MB then upped to 100MB a couple months ago and then this month they upped it again to 250MB, which is not good but tolerable). H2O even advertises on their site that you can bring our iPhone or Android phone to their service. The startup cost for H2O is only $10 for a SIM card and their service is only $50 per month for unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and 250MB of data (but no roaming). Not as good as ST but still not too bad, probably the next best thing.

Yeah, I started out with my E71 I bought from Walmart a while back. The screen was busted and they said they couldn't activate it like that. To my surprise they had me send in my phone, which I broke, and they sent me a refurbished one for free... Not bad.

They just forgot to get the phone activated, and the computer kept prompting them to send me a new sim card. So I had to repeat that process 6 times until I got a cs rep that knew a little more about what they are doing.

So I can also attest that it does work with refurbished phones. As long as the sim card they send has the "P" in it, which only 1 of the 6 I received didnt.

And that's with a new E71 and a new iPhone 4 32GB....imagine the savings doing this with refurbished and used phones.

Need some help guys. I've using this for six months now and just now starting to have problems. My iPhone 3GS seems to not be roaming anymore. I've checked the data roaming under general then network. Roaming is set to on. I can take my sim and stick it back in the 6790 and all is ok, but when the sim is back in the iPhone I get no service. I can go eight miles down the road and have full bars. The 6790 works fine all the time. I checked the APN settings and nothing has changed. Any ideas? Thanks for any help..

Are the E71s still coming with the TF64PSIMC sim? I'm ready to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow and get mine if so

No service ever or no service only in roaming areas? If it never gets service, IIRC when you go to the network settings menu with no service, it will search then display a list of available carriers. If there are none it's a phone problem, if there is at least one and it won't connect it's a possible service problem.

Thanks for the help! It did end up being a problem in the antenna. I replaced the charging dock/antenna assembly and service returned to normal!!

Is there any risk that this will stop working because ST blocks this at some point?

Sure, there's a risk. But for them to do so they would have to replace all three models that use the unlocked SIMs.

Since they just released a new one (the E5) it's unlikely in the near future.

So I just joined the club and bought an E71 from Walmart. It was the last one I could find anywhere. There is one problem though. The plastic cover for the MicroSD slot is twisted and dosnt flush with the side. It sticks out. It costs like $8 to replace it online. Will I have any luck replacing just the plastic cover with ST? Its not that big a deal, since I was even lucky to find this one. I plan on using the phone till the Iphone 5 is released, so hopefully, the Iphone 4 prices fall some.

Honestly for that I would just get the part from eBay or something. ST customer service would probably have you send in the phone....if they fix it at all.
