Sony Vaio With i5-430m or HP Pavillion with i5-450m

    So here's my dilemma:

Both laptops are the same price and have very similar features, but the HP seems to edge out the Sony in terms of specs.

    HP Pros: http://www.officemax.com/technology/...i_sku=22333887
    Slightly Better Processor
    Faster Hard Drive
    Integrated Bluetooth and Fingerprint Reader

    Sony Pros: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834127197
    Looks Nicer
    Better reputation (imo)
    Keyboard Skins available

For those wondering the models are the Sony VPCEB26FX/WI (on sale for $700 from OfficeMax last week) and the HP DV6-3031nr(on sale this upcoming week for $700 from OfficeMax).

This will be my laptop for college and I plan on keeping it for a few years at the least. I will be programming, web surfing, watching videos, and editing photo/video.

So whaddya say? How's the warranty between the two companies? Any issues I should know about?

    Thanks in advance!

After the HP debacle, I'd avoid them at all costs. However, Sony isn't that much better if you're planning on repairing the laptop if its broken, as the parts can be expensive.
Anything below this statement isn't part of the post I just made.

I'm leaning towards the Sony right now, but I'm open to suggestions/advice!

Did you look into Lenovo thinkpad?

The i5 setups run a pretty penny compared to the two I have listed. I'm on a pretty tight budget... college is freakin expensive. :/

No doubt Lenovo Thinkpads are pricey. I was going to get a thinkpad with and intel core i5, but my wifes dell HDD took a crap. So we ended up buying two Ideapads z560 with intel i3.

I don't know if you decided yet. I picked the HP when I was deciding on a laptop. Personally, I think the newer HPs with the aluminum finish look better than any VAIO. And a better processor and faster hard drive will make some difference, especially if you do video editing.

I will say that I don't care for the touchpad on the HP. The buttons are integrated into the touch surface, so sometimes you'll miss when you try to drag or highlight. If I remember, those keyboard skins on the VAIOs are just rubbery covers to lay over the keyboard (and they're like $20 a pop). I wouldn't call it a plus...

I don't know about reliability. I haven't had problems with HP for the many machines I've bought from them, but others complain about them. If you take care of your stuff, it'll last as long as you need.
