Toronto What's a website where I can send SMS text message to my friend in USA for free?

I am from Toronto and my friend crossed the border to the States so I want to message him a list of what to buy so I don't have to pay $0.25 out of my pocket just to send an international text message. I remember in the past, someone frankly told me a website where you can text another cellphone without having to pay any incurring fees/cost.

Please reply if you know the site, thanks

When you say a friend crossed the border, is he visiting usa? He has a canadian number? If so, you don't need a website. Just message him normally.

I wouldn't recommend either of these websites. TextPlus assigns temporary phone numbers, meaning that if your friend doesn't text you back within a couple hours the number expires. As well, your friend can't just add the number to his contact list because it's always changing. The same goes for Mobile Mammoth; it just uses your carrier's Email to text gateway.

For TRUE free text messaging to the U.S., open a Gmail account at www.gmail.com. Head into Settings -> Labs and enable "Send SMS." You can now send free text messages to the U.S., and you'll get real numbers that your contacts can add to their phonebooks and text you any time. All we need now is a service like this for Canadians, and we'll be all set!

I agree. Can you clarify what you mean HeavyUsage? Is your friend taking his/her Canadian phone into the States? If yes, then you can still text that number for free and your friend will receive it for free (assuming he/she has some type of text plan in Canada already).
