You might be right about that -- and yet it still happens.

We used to use Panda but it was a huge pain in the *** in most cases. Others might have better luck but we hated it.

currently using BitDefender Internet Security 2010 on my desktop and laptop.
Microsoft Security Essentials is installed on the netbook.

used to use Kaspersky Internet Security before making the switch to BitDefender.
thinking of switching back to Kaspersky when my subscription to BitDefender expires.

I use MSE also, but on my wife's old Dell laptop, its a pain. It hogs the CPU constantly and most times we haave to manually shut it down to be able to watvh a video or do any Photshopping. But I atill use it on the other multi core machines tho, and they're ok.

Some of the best anti-virus are BitDefender, Norton, F-Secure ,Webroot. Currently i am using Norton Internet Security 2010 on my desktop.

Norton = one of the worst AV solutions on the market followed closely by McAfee and Bitdefender. All three have dodgy software, slow your computer down, have software updates that can potentially brick your OS and a host of other problems. I stay as far away from all three as possible.

If you want to pay for one I recommend ESET NOD32
If you want a freebee I recommend SUPERanti-spyware paired with Malwarebytes

Same here. As AV programs go, it seems to be the least taxing on the system. It's, truly, a life saver for netbooks.

Neither one of those Freebies are antivirus programs, they are antispyware, totally different animal. If you want a free antivirus program you will need to go with Avast, AVG, or the Microsoft product as an example.

According to me Kaspersky 2009 it is the best Anti Virus software now. And It does not slow down your PC and detects almost all threats.

Im sure glad I have MSE installed went to Iconator.com downloaded some avatars and immediately MSE warned me I had virus & 2 trojans the software removed it for me. Google has since put them on their Warning dont vist list.

PS....looks like Iconator cleaned up their site since july. they are no longer on Google's warning list.
