This is from the Daily Forum forum. The OP is supposed to be an employee at Nokia and reliable. We will see!

EDIT: They're also saying in a related thread that we are to get widgets and music player on the home screen like the N97. Hmmm.

So what is supposed to be so great about the new firmware for N97?

Is the update supposed to improve speed of the N97? I've heard the phone is pretty slow/laggy. That's why I haven't gotten it. Confirm or deny?

I feel that the 5800 widgets are just going to be the same stuff on the X6 and 5530. Glad it's getting an update though.

The rumored date for the upcoming N97 firmware is Oct 10th. Hopefully that is true because my N97 needs a hard reset badly and I can't wait to get kinetic scrolling.

If you haven't read it yet recently retired hofo member EverythingBlaxx (now to be found on twitter) gave his hands on preview of the firmware for all to read...

    http://www.n97fanatics.com/nokia-n97...on-experience/

This firmware will make the N97 what it should have been upon release.

I really hope you 5800 users get this update as well. At least kinetic scrolling for peat's sake, but why not throw in the homescreen widgets too

Recently retired? What does that mean? In any event good riddance IMO

How long after a big update do factory units start shipping with the new firmware already installed?

Are there stability improvements? Other than the kinetic scrolling, this was the main aim of the firmware update and I can safely say that this update brings the N97 up to par with the E71 in terms of stability. It’s not quite there in terms of speed though, although it is much much faster than the v12 firmware.
A flagship phone that is slower than my 2-year old E71. Amazing work by Nokia, just amazing. I mean, honestly, how am I supposed to NOT bash Nokia when they pull sh*t like this? I love Nokia, I really do. And I want to stick with them, but how can I "upgrade" to a monster like the N97 knowing that it's processor is too slow to handle the rest of it? It's hard to believe. I need something fast and snappy. Faster than my E71, that's for sure. I don't think the N97 can give me that.
