    Some people are more comfortable/familiar with one interface over the other, regardless of the fact that both may use the same engine. I know I'm more comfortable navigating/configuring VLC over Xine.

    You are using one "program" for everything already. ffmpeg.
    I use the gstreamer-ffmpeg plugin, amongst many other plugins for gstreamer, and my experience is that there are videos that sometimes don't play with gstreamer, but do play with VLC. Please stop telling me what my actual personal experience is. It is by definition something you could not possibly know and it just makes you obnoxious.

    And there still is just no reason to say that it's "stupid" to port VLC to Maemo, as you did. If you can't stand VLC so much, then ignore it, why do you have to come and piss on other people's party?

    Yes, thank you, this is one of the many advantages of having more than one option.

    It just baffles me to take a position that there should not be multiple options. Obviously people have different needs and preferences. Why should one person's arrogant preferences dictate everyone elses experience?

    u may be interested to know that N900's screen has a resolution 2.5 times that of the iPhone so u can see more information in the same screen. it's just one of the many features it has which tells u the N900 is bigger and better than all other smartphones. It's here to stay and Nokia is all geared up for the future now.

    as for the ad, i think it says Maemo 5 will take u by surprise, and that it's extremely potent and versatile. I have a feeling it's the first of many in a sequence but i hope other ads arent this slow to pick up

    Nice! Glitch as in an accidental bug? I would guess someone managed to hack it to run that way.

    No it seems he really got a glitch.

    Some speculation about the portrait being written, but not activated yet. Who knows.
    Browser portrait will be there at the next update and Mozillas fennec will have it right out of the bix, but don't think next update will intoduce portrait to whole Maemo 5 yet.

    Portrait is readily available for 3rd party developers. We should see more and more apps available with it in the coming weeks. Also porting the hack over from the N810 should be fairly trivial.

    This is press release from Nokia Capital Markets Day that's running today.

    Nokia Devices & Services operational priorities
    "In addition to providing its key financial targets, Nokia also outlined key Devices & Services operational priorities for 2010. These are:
    - Improve our user experience;
    - Re-engineer our Symbian user interface; deliver a major product milestone before mid-year 2010, and another major product milestone before the end of 2010;
    - Deliver our first Maemo 6-powered mobile computer, with an iconic user experience, in the second half of 2010;- Significantly increase the proportion of touch and/or QWERTY devices in our smartphone portfolio;
    - Scale up our Services business by expanding geographically and in partnership with more operators;
    - Provide third party developers with better tools to create applications and content for our Ovi ecosystem;
    - Further optimize the industry's lowest cost end-to-end business model in Mobile Phones; and
    - Continue to build on our affordable and localized services offerings for emerging market consumers."

    I'm really surprised if it's really coming that early.

    duh!

    means i have to wait approx 6 mon. coz i am not fully convinced to get and or replace my N95 with N900 and not with E72 as well...

    i really think getting the E90 will keep me happy while waiting for the next offerings...
