I am not as sure as you are that this is really good news.

Instead of downloading and installing some really wonderful Windows Mobile apps from places like xda and ppcgeeks, we will have to start to pay for them from VZW/Microsoft when they are successful in "recruiting" the authors over to the dark side ??

PS: Does enV Touch run WM ?

Wait, LG enV Touch running Windows Mobile? Not likely.

Sure why not? It's pretty cool, smart phone features. Dumb-phone data price!

I'm not sure where this is going, but you can't run Windows Mobile on LG enV Touch.

    ok ok, you got me!

Sorry, I was just trying to mess with "Debbie Downer" here. I just looked at the news as maybe VZW is catching on and I won't be stuck with 20 lame apps for my enVT for a year and a half.

I know the article doesn't directly address "dumb-phones" but hey by the time they get that app store off the ground who knows what will be there.

for dumb phones there is and always will be GIN . they can change the name but it will still be expensive and not very useful to most folks

Verizon will have to allow it on LG phones but watch, there will be a one-time price to download it from GIN and will cost data usage as well.

I'm through with Verizon if they do that. It's just too much now.

That's the way it currently works with GIN and app downloads. All carriers do it, VZW was just late to the party. With vpack or connect plan, no data charges, but app charges still apply.

Don't forget, VZW also made a recent commitment to Java on their phones, so BREW may be a thing of the past soon.
No longer a VZW employee, but still a good information source.

With all that money you save monthly with your Sprint plan, you should be able to order Hooked On Phonics - remember, the phone number to order this is 1-800-ABCDEFG.

I don't mind about that, but if they charge data to download something that it supposed to be preinstalled from the manufacturer, that's where things get ugly. I will NOT pay to download something that should already be on my phone. (I'm talking about LG's planned "App Store")

Wirelessly posted ( Samsung Omnia: Opera/9.5 (Microsoft Windows; Windows CE; Opera Mobi/9.5; U; en) VZW:SCH-i910 PPC 240x400)

is anybody actually buying apps for their WM phones from the appzone?
i looked it over and saw nothing i wanted or if it was interesting it was all over the web for free.
i deleted the appzone from my Omnia to free up some memory for free apps.
am i just being a scrooge or do others agree its just GIN for smartphones and overrated?
