porting a number from a family plan?

I'm giving into temptation and getting a G1. Currently I'm with AT&T on my parents plan. I'd like to keep my number, but I can't seem to get a consistent answer from googling. Amazon says that the SS#, address and name all have to be the same on the old account and new account. Obviously the SS# and name are going to be different. Am I going to have to jump through hoops to get my number ported?

My girlfriend just ported off an ATT family plan over to T-Mobile in March. There was no issue with the port. She told them the number she wanted, gave them the ATT account number it was attached to as well as the account holders social security number and the account password. Port went through the next day.
