So, sorry, no free PIX or FLIX messaging on smartphones.
And THIS is why there are SO many posts about this subject (and lately, I'm one of the offenders!) There is conflicting information about this subject of getting charged or NOT getting charged for the data used in MMS (pix/vid) messaging. (Before I go further, this is no attack on you, scottmac112, just trying to find the right answer!)

I got some great info, and (I thought) a definitive answer to my question from C DM and Parth G...

Then, this post from scottmac112 throws doubt back in my mind!!

As far as I can tell, and this was confirmed by CS, the data from the pix message itself is covered by the messaging plan, but the phone does something different in the process of receiving and sending MMS that is not included. I had a test pix message sent to me and there was only a small charge for one k or so, not for the few hundred k for the picture itself. I did not try an outgoing message yet, but for incoming messages, it looks like if you have a pay as you go kilobyte data plan and a MMS messaging plan you will pay a few cents a pix message. I would try sending and receiving ONE message and wait until the end of the month and see what the billing is.

You also have go into setups for several of the sneaky programs installed that want to update over the air, or you will have charges. So far they have all asked and allowed me to say no.
