Say I only cared about phone as modem, specifically 5G RF performance on the three networks.

      Not processors, cameras etc.

Any reason to spend more on ultra + etc or is the base model enough?

IMHO, the battery capacity of the higher end units make it more desirable. I use the S21 (base model) and it has a better battery than the S22 (base model). I charge my phone about every 2-3 days with moderate usage.

A merge/combine is when you have two ACTIVE lines and want to merge/combine them into one line. What LCSJL did (and you want to do) is activating a new SIM/phone with a transfer from an existing line.
