• Public Mobile Giving Away 1GB of Free Data to Existing Customers

    "Hey, it's Public Mobile.

As a thank you for being part of Public & to celebrate our new look, we're gifting you 1GB of data. No strings attached.

This one-time addon will be added to your account in the next week. You'll get a confirmation SMS when it's applied. Learn more: http://tl.jumptxt.com/t100Ai8GT"
If you were a Public Mobile subscriber on Monday, August 19th at 23:59 Eastern Time then you should be getting an SMS notification like the one above sometime today. The free GB is to be applied to your account after Wednesday, September 4th—provided, of course, that you're still a PM subscriber on that date as well.

This one-time, 1GB bonus is yours to enjoy until it's all used up. According to iPhone in Canada the speed of your free gigabyte will be the same as the data on your existing plan. That seems fair, and it's a refreshing change to see existing customers getting something back for their loyalty.

Let us know if you got the text from PM!

Instead of one of their existing three brands, or in addition to? Though I was a Fido subscriber back then, I have nostalgia for the brand. I suspect it has very little resonance with most consumers today. Why not bring back Mike while you're at it?

I only said it because “the future is friendly” feels weird from anyone but Clearnet. It’s a better brand name than Koodo or Public anyway.

Public Mobile is giving away two add-ons to all new and existing customers at the moment: 400 min Long Distance (I think that's basically for calls to the US?) and 1 GB of data. Bot are one-time add-ons, so thy are not recurring every month. Available until Dec 25. However, I hear that the minutes/data do not expire until they have been used up, as long as the account remains open.

I don't recall that wireless home Internet for X% of rural areas was promised to the regulators. IIRC, the X% was just for phone cell service. Band 71 can do that, but doesn't have the data capacity...

Thank you for the responses. I should have been more specific with my question: Was offering home internet by T-Mobile just a ploy to get approval for the merger and an idea that will be dropped now...
