• New Samsung Policy to Limit Use of Free Themes

With Samsung's forthcoming update to Android 9 Pie comes a new policy on themes downloaded from their theme store: users will only be able to trial a free theme on their devices for up to fourteen days.

Yes, you read that correctly... free themes will be automatically deleted from Samsung devices running Android Pie after two weeks.

Still don't believe me? Here's proof, in the form of a screen grab from PhoneArena:

I can think of exactly one reason why Samsung would want to do this. They must be trying to purge free themes from their store altogether, presumably so that they can then take a cut of the paid ones. No other explanation makes sense.

Fortunately (I guess?) Android Pie is still a ways off; the first public beta for Germany, South Korea and U.S. markets will be available for download "later this month".

Eff you Samsung if you pull this d!ck move.
Themes made the Galaxy phones interesting and combined with a real launcher, gave me an enjoyable experience.
I will reconsider my next phone purchase if Samsung starts to dictate what I can and cannot do.

Will this have any effect on things like Swift Installer or Substratum themes (assuming they will work on Pie)?

As far as I know, only themes downloaded from the Samsung store are affected.

I think it's excessive on the part of samsung to pay to have themes, it's not as if their phone was not sold out expensive.

If anything I’m hoping they’ll strip out their UI all together for a pure Android experience like we get on Pixel.
