• Sprint Claims its LTE Network is Bad in Move To Help Merger with T-Mobile

Yes you read that right! Do not adjust your AMOLED or Super Retina display.

In a recent filing called: ďSprintís Network Faces Severe ChallengesĒ the beleaguered carrier overlays its LTE coverage against T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. By showcasing only its LTE network it really shows the disparity against its competitors.

But there is a reason behind the madness. By industry perspective it appears that Sprint may be trying to win sympathy as a strategy to win over the FCC's blessing. It feels that by pointing out its weaknesses the whole concept of allowing the merger to proceed should be a no-brainer.

See the comparison images Sprint has ceded to regulators of its LTE network compared to T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon respectively.

What do you guys think? Is this a winning strategy?

T- Mobile constantly talks about the speed of their LTE network but downplays the poor geographic coverage.

Merging two second-tier carriers with weak native coverage isn’t going to create a new top-tier carrier with good coverage. I know that their narrative is that the merger will create economies of scale that free up money that will be used to create a third top-tier carrier. Perhaps that’s true, though the merged company could decide that it’s more prudent to just remain a second tier carrier and continue to just cede the customers that care about coverage to AT&T and Verizon.

I think I see a bit more white space in the posted AT&T map than I do in the T-Mobile map, particularly west of the Rockies.

I'll believe the T-Mo B41 LTE on Cellmapper way before I believe the B71 site on Sprint that *I* mapped. I suspect that one is just a hiccup with Cellmapper as it has the same cell ID as the T-Mo...
