• Whatever Happened to AirPower?

Here's Phil Schiller talking about AirPower, Apple's multi-device inductive charging mat, at the iPhone X event last October. You may have noticed that there was zero mention of this product during the iPhone and Apple Watch event last week; what you maybe didn't know is that Apple has also scrubbed any and all mentions of it on Apple.com—and .ca, etc.

So what happened? Apparently there are ongoing technical issues holding up its development. These are only rumours, mind you, but they come from respected sources. Here's Jon Gruber of Daring Fireball:

Something about the multi-coil design getting too hot—way too hot. There are engineers who looked at AirPower’s design and said it could never work, thermally, and now those same engineers have that “told you so” smug look on their faces.
In addition to thermal issues there are problems with connectivity as well. According to Sonny Dickson the feeling among Apple employees working on AirPower is that it's "doomed to failure". More at the links immediately below.

I haven't seen that limitation for a SIM card slot unlock mentioned before.

Have you found a seller that even claims to be able to unlock the mystery phone that you won't specifically name?
